Why do hulls have "steps" in them?
Can anyone explain this QUESTION? It sounds like a stupid question but I dont know evrything so I thought I would ask.
|
To go faster.:D
|
packs air under hull.
|
allows air to get under the hull to break the surface friction of the water and hull.............in turn this creates less drag and faster speeds..............
|
Cause escalators are too expensive:D :evilb: :D
|
Steps acts as a horizontally positioned strake, which breaks the surface tension of the water allowing the boat hull to have less drag
They do not put air under the hull |
I seem to recall a couple yrs ago where Fountain had a boat or 2 that had holes in the steps with a tube leading into the engine compartment to induce air in the step. Or to break the vaccum.
Whatever you see on a Fountain hull, it's to give it more speed. :) |

So no one does that anymore? I've never seen one. Maybe people just didn't like the idea of holes in the bottom of their boats. :)
Did it work? |
