I fit in the new 35!

I went to the Miami show on Firday and got in the new 35 with staggered engines. I fit really well behind the helm. I was really worried about that because I am thinking of selling my 38TE CC and might go back to a performance boat...not totally sure just yet though.

Fountain did a great job on the new 35. My wife and I were really impressed with the fit and finish and styling of the boat. 105mph for $250K seems to be pretty good. The 496 93mph boat sells for $210k I think. I crawled all over the boat and Wyatt was in the boat answering anyones questions. Wyatt if you read this I'm sorry I stepped on your foot with my prosthetic leg! I can't feel anything or were it is stepping but I know that had to hurt!

GatorDave 02-17-2007 08:29 AM

What did you think about cockpit space and the new cabin? I haven't had a chance to see one in person yet. I really think being able to run 90 with a pair of 496's is a great way to go. Now I just have to convince the "admiral" :(

I can't believe you fit you big wooden dummy!!:evilb:

Now Wyatt's gonna raise the price of your new boat :D

FeverMike,

How is the room at the helm compared too an older 35 L? Did you fit fine?

I went to the St Louis show last weekend and they had the side by side set up so I could not compare it to the typical 35 L.

" I am thinking of selling my 38TE CC "

What is a 38 TE CC???

FeverMike 02-17-2007 09:14 AM

I am 6'5" tall and I fit fine. I could use maybe 1 or 2"'s more leg room but I do fit good and safe and can brace my self in the seat sitting or stand and drive. Someone that is 5'10-6'3" will fit perfect.

Nice engine room with nice rigging and fender holders. With staggered engines it is easy to get in the bildge to change spark plugs, hook up the hose to flush the engines and clean the engines.

The boat is nice and deep and you feel safe and protected. Excellent new seats, super thick padded and very heavy grade vinyl, extra stout hardware and grab handles well placed. The boat feels extra solid like it was carved out of a solid chunk of fiberglass I noticed while walking around on it. The cabin is really nice and a lot of ideas were taken from there cruiser line. My wife is 4'11's and she could stand in the cabin with about and 1" or so more head room. I sat in the rear seat behind a bolster and had plenty of leg room...remember I am 6'5" tall too! The cockpit of the 42 seemed just a tad bigger so Fountain did there home work perfectly on the new 35.

Oh man, I stepped right down on his bare foot with my prosthetic leg/hard carbon fiber foot! My wife said Wyatt winced with pain and looked right at her. I guess he did not want to offend me and just reach down and move my prosthetic leg. My wife smaked me and told me Hey you are stepping on his foot...move it! :D I would not have been offended and feel bad I stepped on him. I know it had to really hurt! I can't feel what it steps on obviously. So Wyatt, I am really sorry about that...it's cool to laugh about it, don't be shy...I can't be offended about my leg.:drink:

Downtown42 02-17-2007 09:28 AM

that's funny!!! Wyatt is a good guy. I see him in Chicago 2 times a year, he is always quiet and just hangs out. I'll remember to mention your story.

tomtbone1993 02-17-2007 09:31 AM

Good deal FeverMike

35 fountain 02-17-2007 01:27 PM

Hey mike dont worry about the foot deal, I'm sure Wyatt will recover. That is a beautiful fish boat you got there. I took a picture of it over to my fish tank and my oscar hid behind the rocks. (that picture will keep him up nights). Its good you finally found an HP boat that fits you

Is fountain faster than outerlimits???

The answer is yes - with an official 1 way pass at better than 177 with APBA and SBI present at the event, Outerlimits slinked away before dawn claiming they had engine problems. The price of Outerlimits is off the laugh meter and they cant keep up. And the quality isnt any better for the money.

US1 Fountain 02-17-2007 04:55 PM

yada yada yada. :p

Are you going to buy one?

I really like the new interiors. The old is....... old.

Every boat maker is really getting away from the standard plain Jane look and getting the high tech look. Problem is, when I can afford the new look, it'll be old stuff.

Totally wrong. Get back to the main topic of this thread. The 35 with 496's seem to be a great package. Running 90+ with that little of power is a great accomplishment.

Lucky Strike Jr 02-17-2007 07:03 PM

Mike,

Sorry we didn't see you at the show. The 35 is calling your name! 93mph with 496's is impressive. Sell that CC and get back into performance boating. I bet the insurance isn't too bad 496's either. Can you buy one from your local dealer for $210K?

Fever Mike, that is a serious looking Center counsel fishing boat. Are those 3- 300's hanging on it. I am sure you are the first one to the fishing grounds and the first one back.
Nice.

FeverMike 02-17-2007 08:46 PM

Hey Lucky Jr, my wife was asking if you all were going to the show. I did not run into any OSO people this year. This year was a quick walk through for me as business is way too busy and I only had Friday to play hooky at the show for 4 or so hours. Actually I really fell in love with the 38 Top Gun hiding in the back of the Cigarette booth. What a nice paint job, rigging and so forth. It was by far the best looking boat in the Cig booth and they had it hiding in the back!

The one thing I like about my fish boat is it rides in rough water really nice and the outboards are easy to deal with. I still like to go out and drop for Grouper a few times a year too. I/O's scare me somewhat since I do not trailer or have a truck to even pull the boat somewhere for service.

No those are 275's. 300 opti's were not out yet and the 300 Verado's will be out this summer. the boat does 72-73 WOT and will run 50-60 in big water. It has a 125 gallon fuel tank up front and a 300 gallon tank in the back. It get great milage at 1.4mpg at a 45-50 mph cruise.

Roger 02-17-2007 10:23 PM

Hey FeverMike, did the top of your knees hit the bottom of the dash? I have a staggered 38 on order and I have requested them move the seat back an inch or so. I am 6'2" and my knees hit. I had the same problem with my 29 and Reggie had the seats moved back two inches on that boat. Roger

No but they were close but I was comfortable and could brace myself. I had the same problem in my 29 too but back then I had 2 knees and use to wedge them in to hold me in the boat while sitting. In a sport boat I seem to mostly half way sit/ lean into the bolster. I just move the seat bottom down about an inch or so to catch my rear in real rough stuff.
If I do end up with a 35 or 38 one day I will have them move the seats back 1 inch too.

Totally right - the point of the thread is the Mike fits in the new 35. I also believe Mike posted his fish boat. Were you elected or did you appoint yourself thread cop?

pullmytrigger 02-18-2007 02:25 PM

that 35 is really nice Mike:cool: ........Real nice!......but you'd HAVE to get the personal Reggie demo.....!

LOL! Strap (4) 300's on the back of your TE and you can be a "performance boater" again!

Naw, I'm not leaving just yet. I love the outboard powered boats because of ease of maintanance, shallow water ability and ease of flushing/washing after the day is done. Plus I still like to fish a few times a year.

So now my problem is I need 2 boats!. I might change my mind but I'd like to have a 35-38 performance boat that will hit 100mph and a 24-27 center console with twin OB's.

Mark, 4-300 Opti xs's on a 38TE Fountain will do 86mph!

fountain1fan 02-18-2007 05:33 PM

mike did they have the new 55 sf at the fountain booth ? robbie

FeverMike 02-18-2007 07:51 PM

Robbie, no the 55 was in the booth. I did not go to the in water part of the show though.

jryan26 02-18-2007 08:41 PM

Mike
Stick to your guns! Get the 525s!

DollaBill 02-18-2007 09:57 PM

oh god thats funny mike.

fountain1fan 02-19-2007 10:33 AM

ohok thanks mike

rickdarling 02-19-2007 08:42 PM

Looks like a new 35 isn't in the cards for me unless I come up with more cash... The boss isn't going to cut me any slack. We'll see if it gets any better into the summer.

Mike: Progressive Insurance quoted me $1300 a year on the 07 with 496 HO Mags but wouldn't even discuss the 525s.
