Looking at boat ads, some of 29s and 32s had cupholders behind the bolsters. If I remember right they were an option. Has anyone added them to a boat that didn't have them from the factory? Would think it would be an easy job for an upholstry shop.

My 29 has them from the factory.

Some boats don't though. If I bought one like this picture, how hard would they be to add. I'd like to have at least 2 cupholders in the cockpit.

Mine had the factory installed ones. They are too small to hold anything in a coozie. I replaced mine with some powdercoated large cupholders. I had my seats apart when I did it.

Did you have to remove any wood or plastic or was it just upholstry?

Wood under the uphostry. There's a fine line if going with the larger cupholders. The 'arched' corner is from the shape of the foam. The wood behind the foam is a standard right angle. You can feel the wood if you push on it.
I had to position the holder as far in the corners as possible to keep from braking out the inside corner. I did whitle a little on the slope of the wood because new the cup holder was deeper and was hitting the inside of the wood frame. I think it would almost be impossible to install the large ones without removing the top half and also removing the seat bottom all together. The side panel is to close to work on it. I also peeled back the vinyl to cut the wood hole larger.
The small cupholders are as worthless as no cup holders at all. But if you do go that route, not as bad of a job. Probably even could do those in the boat.

I added them in my 32...the large ones fit in fine..my boat is a 2000 and mine had plastic marine board not plywood.

I cut back the vinyl then used a hole saw to make the hole.

It worked out great.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. Did you remove the bolsters from the boat to install those? Are the cupholders big enough for coozies?

No, I did not have to remove anything. I marked out the vinyl and made a "X" cut and pulled it out around the hole saw.
Just take it slow with the hole saw so you dont pull the vinyl.

I used a larger hole saw and just tucked the vinyl inside the hole and snug fit the cup holder.

Yes a can with a coozie on it fits perfect.

Thanks man. Although it might not matter if I can't find reasonable insurance on a 32.
