03 35 Lightning Stereo Removal

Any tricks to access the rear of head unit in cabin ? Pulled four screws around the faceplate but unit feels strapped at rear with no access. What am I overlooking ?
Also this boat is just a deck and four but has wiring for upgrades. Any info on this extra wiring or will it all need to be traced ?
While we're at it, where is the preferred location for subs ? Want to keep the gunwales open for bumper storage.
Know many here have experience to share.
Thanks !

Hi Kelly,
When I had my 2000 Lightning at the stereo shop they had a set of long flat sticks (like stereo keys), they went into both sides of the head unit and that released something so that they could slide the head unit out. My boat has a CD changer in the cabinet under the galley (leaves not much room for anything else down there), and the sub woofers are in sealed boxes under the rear seat.
Also the bottom panel under the stereo soffit have screws that can be removed and then that panel drops down.
HTH.

David,
Thanks, I am well aware of the release tools needed to remove the deck from the sleeve. I would like to get the sleeve unhooked from the cabinet it is mounted in to access all the wiring.
Was the stereo mounted in the galley cabinet and then the cabinet mounted in the hull before the top deck of the boat was attached ?

Can't answer that one, I don't know. But you can get the bottom of the cabinet out pretty easily and then you can look up inside, may need a mirror, but that should help.

My sleeve has tabs bent over to hold it tight against the panel it is mounted in. Pull the headunit out, then should be able to see the bent tabs. I can acess my wiring from thru the sleeve once the head unit is pulled out w/o removeing the sleeve.

I replaced the one in my 06>> el chepo. 4 screws and the unit
came out with the sleave. Wiring is simple but at least Fountain did use larger then needed wiring. Installed a new JBL and also the new JBL 10 inch woofers with the intagratated amps. Also installed new remotes at both the
helm and pass frt seats

Kelly,
Congrats on the new boat! Is the Checkmate still running strong with the 34 Bravo? Hope you have better luck selling it than I have with my 27! At least we have a backup boat if one is down for repairs or upgrades!

Wife really wanted more stable so how can I argue ???? May need to keep the 34 so when I upgrade the 575's I will only need to buy one. Low 90's is kinda boring with 35 ft. ya know ?
