Fountain. Less horsepower for same speed and longer engine life.

This is one of the main reasons i want a Fountain .The general concenses from engines builders i spoke with is a supercharged engine( even intercooled )in the 1000 hp range will have a dramatically shorter life then say a nat asperated engine in the 800 hp range.(Not to mention if something goes in a blown engine under boost its usually catostrophic )With the effeciency of the Fountain hull even if i choose to go blown i can go less boost or even nat asperated (To run 100 in a 42 Fountain dont need 2000 total horsepower.) ps Frank i know exactly who your talking about in Keyport.Another main reason i want to use Nick is that he right there (10 minutes away ) and very hands on with problems .I cant ever think of a time in my 13 years of doing business with him that i had a problem that he didnt say come right over.That esp in a boat(with our 4 month season ) means everything to me.(Sat morning in July if theres a problem Nick will be at that dock )If i wanted to go specialized (spend more money ) i heard Kurt (Bricktown ) is very good.

You need to really ask yourself how you plan on boating. In your first post you said "I plan on going on day trips of up to 150 .." The set up and horsepower you have been talking about is just not practical for long runs, you need the reliability. Tough to have it all. Tough decision ahead of you, run with the "Big Dogs" or enjoy hours of boating with family friends.

Once in a while i would like to go on a day trip to AC (75 miles away )If the engine is set up and tuned and maintained properly why is it not practical.In the Vipers some of my friends make WAY OVER 1500 horsepower in a 500 cu in engine (twin turbo ) in a car thats so streetable that their girlfriends could (and do ) drive from NJ to Calif with the AC on.I hear of boaters who run the Merc 1100 package that have no problems doing the above.

Alot of these practality problems may arise from owner incompetance in regards to operating (ratio of time at full throttle) maintaince or lack of ect.People blame the engine not themselves

1000hp is asking alot out of a 572ci marine motor...if this is the first 1000hp boat motor these guys are building there is going to be an expensive learning curve.

Here is how we got 800HP/5600rpm...on min 91 Octane.

557ci Dart Blocks, 4.375" stroke Callies Cranks, 4.500" 8:1 Ross Blower pistons, Manley I beam rods, Canfield 350 alum. heads, Manley severe duty valves, Isky hyd roller cams, Tool room gold springs,
Holley 750 Blower carbs, BlowerShop 10-71s @ 6psi boost, MSD dist. 32*/ 2500rpm. CMI Elbow Tops.

I got 838hp, similar boost 93 octane but on 580"

580" tall deck bowties, 4.50 Callies Cranks, 4.530 Lunati pistons (8.3:1), Oliver Rods 6.70, Merlin Iron heads 345's (bowl blend and mild ports, Crane solid roller, std. holly 750 carbs, hampton 8-71 blowers, 32-34* timing, power peaks at 5800.

I realize that I left a lot of power on the table with the small blower, no intercooler and iron heads but we used everything I had and I can't ask for more!!! I could make more power and run it on the ragged edge but I like to go boating every weekend!. The cam isn't crazy for a solid roller either.
