42 Fountain in big water verses Apache or Cig.

Until 5 minutes ago I thought that was true as well. I wanted to see what the weight differences actually were so I went to their websites and found this:
42' Fountain weighs 11,400 lbs
42' Cigarette weighs 10,800 lbs
42' Apache weighs 11,850 lbs
46' Cigarette weighs 12,800 lbs
47' Fountain weighs 16,500 lbs
Anyone else completely surprised by these numbers?
I know I am.
Good luck with your boat search REDDEATH! I do agree that the narrow 8ft beam of a Cigarette will provide you with a smoother ride than the wider beam boats as well. Although I am in upstate NY now, I grew up at the Jersey shore and still boat there a few times a year. A few years back we had a 33' Baja and we'd run in Barnegat Bay and out of Barnegat inlet and back in Manasquan Inlet...lots of fun but a bigger boat would have been better! The inlets and the seas in the Atlantic can certainly get the best of you.

PS how can the 41 Apache only be approx 1000lbs more that a 42 Fountain.Side by side the Apache absolutely dwarfs the Fountain (much more freeboard ,more running surface ect.)The Fountain is the approx size of a Top Gun while the Apache is the size of a Tiger.

I believe my 42' Fountain weighs around 10,500#dry.

I agree that the Apache's and Cigarette's dwarf Fountain's side by side, that's why I thought the numbers seemed odd. I'm not sure about the older boats but the numbers I posted came right from each manufacturers website for their current models.

Figure if the Apache Warrior (supposed to be a heavy Apache,since all were laid up differently ) was close to 14000 lbs then what would a light weight lay up be- 12000?lbs.If a 39 Sutphen is around 9500lbs then i would assume the Fountain would weigh the same since they are about the approx size.How much does a Top Gun weigh?

Before Almost Every Race They Weigh The Boats, And Our Fountain Has Never Been Less Than 10,400, But The New Ones With The Cut Down Sides And Back Weigh Around 8,500 - 8,900 Thats How They Can Run Over 110 With 525s. We Needed Super Cat Motors 750hp To Run That Kind Of Speeds. With Big Power ( 1400s )the Fountain Is 30 Mph Faster Than The Race Layup Apache, And The Weights Are About The Same.

John is your raceboat a 42 or a 47? The Fountain is basically the same weight as the Apache and power for power 30 mph faster -that REALLY says something for the new hull technology.

I lifted all three (Warrior, Cig and Fountain) the FTN was definitely lighter...
The fountain didn't come into its own until about 75 mph when you started running harder and getting on top of the waves. Under that speed you took a beating... The Cig and the Pach were much more comfortable at cruise speed.
Just my observation...not blowin sunshine...
