35 Fountain with shorties
Anybody run them on a straight bottom 35 Ex.? The boat has 600sc's with B-Max uppers. Just wondering since it needs new lowers if shorties would benefit it.
|
I would think so. I believe it adds 4-6 on a single step.

What about the twin step lightnings? i have an '01 35' and thought it would help me but just don't know for sure. anybody tried it on that hull? What is the optimum x-dim or how about the optimum from the bottom of the hull to the prop shaft measurement. That may be a little more universal.

Like Jryan26 said - 4 to 6 is a good estimate. Maybe a little more with the right prop combo.

Has anyone tried on the twin stepped if so did it handle the same ?

one certain way of knowing is to look and see how many if any holes for the side water intakes are pluged from the factory. this will give you an idea of how short you may be able to go. ofcourse ther is much more, but this will help as -1 or -2 or if your runing round 90 then maybe just the more hydrodynamic standard length case , either mercury or imco.. which will also increse speed.

That's a real good speed for a straight bottom with 600's. How much hp do you think you are pushing? I chose the Imcos -2. They have worked well with my application.

What does the plugged holes tell you? I was thinking of getting some shorter drives, and I have some holes plugged from the factory. Never knew exactly why they were plugged.
to keep all the open holes under the water so pressure is still good? |

they are pluged so they dont allow the lower to suck air or to an extent bleed off water p.s.i but most the air part. it really helps to have access to -2 lowers and spacers in 1/2 inch increments, a pail of gear oil and a solid day to truly test and find the sweet spot. best of luck. |
