Hey guys anybody check the prices on the 08 35' models coming out this year???I was at the NYC boat show and for an 08 with 496's and X drives they were quoting me 240,000.00.Seems like this is way over the 07 and 06 prices and the gentleman said that Fountain raised the dealer price 26,000.00 for no reason and no upgrades to show for it.Seems like they are pricing their best selling Fountain out of range for buyers this year. What are your opinions??
Thanks Nordic95 |
If that price is correct they sure aren't going to sell many - maybe they want to phase it out since the new hulls are so much faster.
|
good, .........that will stop the beating that has been happening to the other fountain owners....
|
Sure hope so. I've seen prices on boats similar to my 35 Lightening and feel sick to my stomach!

A lot of good used Exec's out there that would seem very attractive at that price.
|
price is up.. Not for no reason..Cost of building the boats has rizen (the price of the ex has always been on the margen)
interior has been upgraded slightly also.mercs cost on rigging has also gone up. |

Thanks Nordic95 I was told late last fall that the base price of the 42 EX was going up double this amount for the '08 model by a dealer I was talking to. A lot of the materials in a boat are petro-chemicaly based and have likely taken a big jump. As well as the cost of shipping etc. Hopefully Fountain will not drop the EX models, they are still great boats and a good value compared to other offerings out there. On the plus side the increase in the cost of new does help hold the value up on the used market, especially the later model stuff. |
I have been speaking with the Fountain dealers in Dallas and
Austin. The cost of all the Fountains are going up dramatically. I also have noticed that they are not selling many, for that matter the same 08s I inquired about in late summer are still in their inventories today. I told the dealers that your guys are slowly approaching Cigarette territory. An 08 35L with stag 525 and loaded 300K?????. I will wait and if I buy I will wait for a used 1 year old. This increase in price should shore up the re-sale price on my 06 35L. Boating has become extremely costly. |
Or is it the dealers know that the used market is c**t and the are leaving themselves a lot of room for trades?
|
Wish we could Make that for a margin and sleep at night(Yikes) .. Costs have gone up as stated above,,

Great news :cool-smiley-026:

Good news - as the value has gone to hell with the old prices and all of the dealers whoreing them out. There is a brand new loaded 07 X for sale at 139k at Duckys in PA. It has been at this price for months now and still no takers. If they think they are going to get another 26 grand more for the same boat they must be smoking crack - still though it isgood news for the used market.

I have a serious question. Does fiberglass cost that much. And really...how much are they mass producing engines for. I look at my HOME including the land it sits on.....how much does it really COST to build a boat? come on...someone enlighten me. I love my Fountain but hasn't anyone else been sitting in the cabin daydraming and wonder actual cost on a boat.
|
Yes the prices have gone up quite a bit. My friend owns a Fountain dealer here in upstate NY and we had a conversation about that recently. They have a new 29' (although discontinued, you can still get them) MSRP is $220,000 with a Merc 525...talk about sickening!!!

This is a very true statement because I have sat in the cabin of my boat and took a look around and wondered- How much does this **** really cost to make. |

Yeah that's what he said MSRP is. It does have an expensive graphics package but still it's ridiculous.
I priced out a 29' on Fountain's website yesterday and base price with a 525 was $182,000 :angry-smiley-055: |
FPB (Fountain Powerboat Industries) is trading around $1 for a reason - down from over $8 a few years ago. With the rising cost of gas and materials and the devaluing of the $, things are looking pretty bleek for the performance boating industry.
I hate to say it but unless there is a miracle breakthru that once again provides a cheap energy source, I think the glory days of Performance boating are behind us. While there will always be a market for these luxary items, I fear fewer and fewer people of moderate income will be able to afford them. |
The cost of a gallon of synthetic gasoline made from agricultural products is about $1 per gallon, total, including land, growing, equipment, labor, refining plant, etc, with an annual yield of 500 to 1500 gallons per year per acre.
The only problem is volume of supply, and that is increasing very, very quickly. The amount of investment in synthetic fuels is remarkably similar to the investments in the dot com bubble -- lots and lots of billions of dollars is pouring into this. Oil prices are up because the day of petroleum is almost over, so those holding the oil are going for their last big cash grab. At least, that is one way to interpret the data. Predicting the future is always risky. |

I couldn't not justify upgrading from my 23 Velocity to the 35 Lightning. Did it anyway. Never again. My plans to upgrade to a 42 are on indefinite hold. The total cost to own these things has gotten way high for my tatse. I'm going to consider myself fortunate to have the 35, enjoy it, and keep it at that.
Interstingly, shortly after 1997 when we bought the 35, we also bought a piece of waterfront on the St Lawrence in upstate New York. Property cost roughly the same as the boat. Now the property is worth, literially, about 10 times what the boat is now worth. Kinda puts things in perspective, eh?

I am afraid you are right on the money. The market for this stuff is shrinking fast. I will hold on untill I can no longer justify it. Its not that gas is the only thing that has gone up. The price of gas has caused everything to jump another 20% so we are getting squeezed from both ends. Something has got to give.

This will help the value of your current 35
providing I stay out of WOT. I would love a 38 and still may pick up a 1 year old 38 this summer. I have been boating for 25 years from runabouts, to big sportfishers to go fast and you have got to realize when getting in: BOATING AINT A CHEAP HOBBY. Its even worse if you are not a savy owner and have to out source all your maintenance. The only thing we have no control over is the cost of fuel and insurance. Further more I bet one day soon we will be hit with some kind of a Guzzler tax. Last year I bought a new 07 Roush Mustang Stage 3 and had to pay a 1000.00 gas guzzler tax. Buy low and sell high |

Thanks Nordic95 I'm pretty sure that that they can do better but odds are my next boat will also be a used one. |

We went to the Louisville show this weekend. They had a 38 there that listed for $480k ish - 700's, nxt transom with 6's. I aked the salesman ( a guy that I know) what it could be bought for and he told me he priced one out last night at $410K. When he saw the look of shock on my face he quickly added, "but at that price it does come with a trailer." :)
I'm pretty sure that that they can do better but odds are my next boat will also be a used one. The best buy has always been a lightly used late model. Let someone with way more "discretionary income" take the big hit and then take advantage of their generosity. My new, to me, '06 lightning was bought for a little more than half of it's list price with 57 hours on the clock, 40+ of which are under 3500 rpm. These new scanable computers are a wonderfull thing, you can see how it's been run. Making a cash deal mid November didn't hurt the deal either. |
Sweet deal Peter. It looks like you found a beauty at a great price. I'll bet you can't wait for spring. :)
