I have driven both and up here on Lake Michigan we get alot worse than just 3' swells . It really all depends on your skill level, a novice will get into trouble no matter what he is driving. I have out run a 38 T/G with an equal top speed in 4-6 footers with our old 30' Scarab.

When ever I hear statements like this, not knowing the individuals, I take it for what its worth. As already been mentioned, drivers ability, seat time and comfort level, all enter in. Some people boat on lakes and inland waterways, a true 3 foot wave for them, may look like a 5 footer, to those of you on the great lakes, a 3 footer is a smooth day. My 38 can handle bigger water than I feel comfortable driving it in fast, I just dont boat in big water that often. Only drive as fast as you feel comfortable, with time you will get used to boating in big water. Now if Tres Martins in the Top Gun, and Reggies in the 42 Fountain side by side who ever came out on top....then we would have a story.

I agree with Mercman's comment, It is a matter of ability and commitment when it gets rough. Thats the same thing the elderly couple in New York told us when my friend bought his 311 Formula from them. They told him that a 311 would not be big enough to handle the waves on Lake Michigan. If Lake conditions were over 3 feet, they stayed off the water. We wound up rebuilding the hydraulic cylinders on the K-planes because they were froze solid from never being used...
