on the nada for the motor do i put the motor in for 425-470 or 471-500. Because that makes a big difference in price on the boat. Its a 500 efi.

The blue motor is about a 25 -30K new. Put in 500. Its a buyers market right now and there are quite a few 27-29 Fountains for sale. You shouldn't pay more than low book for one of these boats, unless it is the absolute prefect boat. I don't use the term perfect losely. Take it from me I have experience, I have bought 4 in last 6 years.

The boat is a 2002 and the boat was 118,000 brand new. its only got 98 hours on it. With the 471-500hp it puts the boat around 71,000 high and 63000 low. im getting the boat for below the 63000. Already looked at it nice boat runs great just have to get it surveyed and go from there.

They dyno them and rate the horsepower at the PROP, not the crank! for example a Mercury Racing HP525 makes approximatly 540HP at the crankshaft and 525HP at the propshaft.

Mercruiser (black motors) Mercruiser, a different company division of Mercury receives standard GM Powertrain engines at their plant in Stillwater, Oklahoma, accessories them with Mercruiser external parts, sprays them BLACK and ships them to the builders and buyers. These GM Powertrain factory built engines are the same ones GM ships to Volvo, Crusader, etc and GM dyno's and measures the horsepower on these engines at the crankshaft! Hence, all black Mercruiser motors that come from Stillwater, Oklahoma are producing and are listed as horsepower at the crankshaft, period !!
I hope this puts this question and mis-statements to bed for the last time!

I love the opening comment. Truer words have seldom graced these forums.

The parting comment, if only it could be so. I think the best you can hope for is a little nap, it will eventually wake up and crawl back to it's feet. I always amazes me how someone can invest serious money, regardless of the level, into something and know so little about what they have spent their money on.

But Thanks Ray, the nap time will be enjoyable while it lasts.

Sounded a litttle high to me, so I just looked it up on the Nada link on Boat Trader. 27 Fever w/HP500EFI @ the 470-500 hp add came up $57,570 low, $64,270 high. Did not add any trailer, if there is one you would need to add for that. Don't go thru the list of optional equiptment adding everything the boat has, ie. Hydraulic Steering or Stainless 4 blade prop, as this is standard on the Fountain. Add just the power option and call it done. This is the way I look at this, and I sell part time for a marina. The only time we do additional adds is if the equiptment is known to have been an option when new, and then only the big ticket items, such as A/C or a gennie.

Use the low number as your guide, and play condition in as a plus or minus. Bear in mind that the market for perf boats is soft now, try to stay below that number even on a "Perfect" boat. Good luck, you have picked a great boat, buy it right and you'll be happy when you go to sell or trade it as well.

P.S. 2002, 27' tandem $2875 / $3270. Plus it a little fo a high end like an Eagle w/mags etc., take a little out if a real basic one.
