Default The Age Old Question (what props)??

I have 1997 Fountain Lightning with HP500's. I am presently spining 27 Hydromotive quad IV's. I am making about 5300 max RPM (assuming the guages are correct) and seeing just about 80MPH. What if anything should I do? I am looking to at least run as fast with lower RPM and possibly pick up a little top end....

Any thoughts?
thanks
Danny

I ran the Hydros and some labbed Bravos on my old 35 w/500s, same bottom as yours. Both were near dead on to each other in terms of top end, most times 80 - 82 mph. The Bravos were better on plane, low speeds and mid range cruise, more speed at a given rpm. Mine were Lab 28s, were the better all around props.

You might also contact Brett @ BBlades about the new Precision Propeller 5 blades he is working with, these things are great for midrange, and the top end is all over the Bravos and Maxes. I just bought the non-lab ones I've been testing and have him doing a second set of larger ones with a lab finish deal. Not sure how the single step would react to them, but for $50 and the UPS you can try them out, cheap way to find out.

FYI, the Maxes ran 88, the Bravos ran 90, and the avatar pic is the to date number on the non-lab Precision 5 blades, they work!!!

How did you pick up speed with the Precision props? Were you able to go up in pitch and turn the same rpm or were they just more effecient?

Sorry I haven't had the chance to call you, I will .

About all it took was bolting them on! They are 30" 5 blades vs. the 32" Bravos. Turning them about the same rpm but they just work on my boat. Slip with them is at 7%, super effecient thus the big number. Brett is working on getting me some 32s, then work them to death, he's thinking the number here can go up again. Time will tell, as they say. I will give you a call soon, lots of work and real estate chit right now.

No problem Peter,

Talked to Bret and he says he only has the one set of props he sent you. It's going to be a little bit before Precision can deliver anymore

You have to be pleased with your boat running those speeds.

Very pleased so far, guess I was smart to buy these testers . He is supposed to have some 32s on order for me, and on their way ASAP. Tried to get that confirmed by Susan today, maybe I need to call her back tomorow and make sure that's the case.

What are you running for props now? I thought you were all dialed in by the Fountain guru.

Marginmn - I'm running the same props that you are running. Like you, I 'm always looking for a little more. I would like to test the Precision Props, just to see if there is any more there.

I had to do it, no F'n way was I going to let these go till I have the next set, labbed and faster per the Man!!! They may be for sale when I get the labbed ones, you want first dibbs? I'll take real good care of them, just going to a$$ whoop a Formula or two with them.

No just stole it from my buddy 5PM, he stole my big number. Only way a Formula was going to get there. I do have a bet going with another friend that has a Formula, don't figure to loose that one.
