There should be a 10" white plastic access under the bench seat. Under that access is the top of the tank with sending unit bolted in.

At least, it was on my 98.

My gauge shows full all the time. How do you check if the sending unit is bad

pull the panel under the seat and disconnect the wire then ground it and see if it goes to full

Racerngr1, look under the rear bench and pull the round cover. There is the fuel gauge sending unit. easy to fix.

I had a 2000 29 Fountain with a HP500. I sold it to a guy in VA the summer of 2003 and he then put it up for sale a year go. From your avitar your boat looks like the one I had. The checkers on the Victory graphics were a dark metallic purple. Let me know... Mike

If you have Gaffrig gauge you can try to re calibrate it.

The design of the tank allows for 2 things, to read full when full and empty when empty.

Everything in between is a crap shoot.

Try as you may no one including Fountain has been able to fixe the fuel gage on the 27 and 29. If you want to be exact install a flow meter and keep track of your usuage. If not your just full until your empty.

There is no doubt the fuel tank is a bad design but my gauge got worse. I recalibrated and got it back to where it was. on the trailer when it reads 3/4 full that is full in the water.

They are right, my 96 29' shows past full @ full, and 2/3 full with 1/4 tank and just above 1/2 when slap azz dry. Best advice is to look for fuel when the gauge gets under 3/4 tank unless you have good luck and someone to tow you in.
