Did the hypertech do anything for the gas mileage? Truck has plenty of torq, just wondering if you gained anything in mpg. I heard some say yes some say no, just wondering your results.

Hey 271-Yes I did gain about 3 mpg. My programmer has 3 settings. A 32, 52, and 92 hp setting. I run the 52 hp setting. According to the paperwork the 52 hp setting builds its peak horsepower at 2100-2300 rpms. And that is right where my truck runs on the highway! The 92 hp setting doesn`t build its peak horses until 3000 rpms. Thats almost redline...!

Wow this is an old thread. I didn't like the way that the suburban towed so I purchased something a little more appropriate for the job; however, I sold it because somebody made me a killer offer on it so I don't have a tow vehicle at all right now but will purchase one in March/April.

Nice motor home Chad, is it a diesel? That will be really cool at Irvine Lake.

Nice truck James, What is next?

I now have a Hallett 270T that I tow with a Ford 7.3 Diesel Excursion. It does a good job. I just bought the Hallett about a month ago.

I am at home recovering from two back surgeries in the last 10 days. Things are getting better now. Hope to be on the water by February.

I think that there will be another Fountain in my future, but it may be a couple of years, my wife really likes the Hallett, it is very user friendly.

What year was your F250 and how did it like pulling the 42?

Seems like that would have been a big boat for the truck.

BTW

No pictures on this computer but 96 F250, 32 fever.

jmoore1225 12-25-2010 12:08 PM

Intercepter, what kind of mileage you getting w/ that v10 2500? I pull my 32 w/ a 3500 drw v/10 running around 70-75 I get 7.5-8mpg on the best days

pwam1 12-25-2010 12:46 PM

I have been towing my 33 Outlaw ~12K lb. boat and trailer with my F250 4X4 V10 for the last several years. Absolutely no issues.
Have been looking at 35 and 38 Fountains, and truthfully, haven't yet pulled the trigger because I am wondering if the V10 is enough to pull the 38 with. Would love a 42 also, but I assume it is really too much for a 250.
Anyone have any experience with 250 V10s pulling these?

2006 F-250, worked well, also had a 2007 F-350 (not dually) that was perfect for it, just that little bit more.....

wildman.....if you go to page two of this thread, you see a pic of the 42 with the F-350.....matching pacakge one.

jmoore1225 12-25-2010 08:56 PM

Pwam a 35 fountain prolly weighs less than your outlaw, my 32 & trailer weigh 10,500... A 35 is only a couple hundred lbs heavier, now a 38? I dunno

I pulled a 1993 42 with our 2500 GMC no problems; however, the 47 Lightning is another story. I'd like more hp for it.

I've honestly never checked the mileage accurately but I'm probaly in the same range as you. I keep thinking about replacing it but haven't made a payment in years and it still runs/pulls well plus with all the snow we get it handles that also.
My fountain is the 32 sport fish cruiser with a fixed tubular top. Weight is 9,600 # with half tank of fuel.

2001 35 lightning pulled by an 05 Ford F-350 Dually. Some mods on the truck. No issues at all. Only about 10 mpg, of course that is much better than the boat gets.

jmoore1225 12-26-2010 03:28 PM

Ya I'm Icthing to buy a newer diesel, just can't justify getting another payment just because I get a Lil worse gas mileage... Will prolly keep it till the wheels fall off!

'09 GMC All Terrain Crew and the 35 Lightning. Actually goes down the road real well, not that I go that far with it. And not at lightning speed!

Dave

It's got a 8.3 Cummins turbo diesel. ( Tandaom axel Dump truck motor ) She pulls like nobody's buisness. Has 22.5 alcholas and a alison 6 speed. :D

Irvine will be tight. We'll have boat race videos from the 70's and 80's on the tv. LOL.
I hope you feel better. If you need help w anything let me know. My back still works ok and i would be glad to help you out.

Let me guess . You are wanting a fountain 38?

Dkahnjob 12-27-2010 12:53 AM

Hi Chad,
That is an impressive power package, you will love that diesel, you just can't beat diesel power for doing work/towing.

Thanks for the offer of help, so far I am just taking it real easy.

Are you going to Elsinore for the Tom Papp memorial run, I think it is January 8th, but not sure.

The next Fountain will be a 42, but I am on the two year plan. I hope the current used boat prices hold, you can buy a lot of boat right now for very reasonable prices.

Take care,

Dave
