anyone own a canopy boat?
I kinda like the looks of the canopy boats and was wondering out of curiousity if anyone owns one for PR or recreational use. I can see a lot of disadvantages of having one just for fun, but the cool factor is pretty high!

actually both....that picture is from us just out for the day |
Ive been looking at one for the past 2 months...Outerlimits SV43 with 700's...should see 115-118 out of it. Going to wait it out until Christmas before I decide. I'm also very interested in Donzi competitions.
They are not as good for seeing but everything else about the boat just grabs me...especially the fact it's only 9,000lbs. |

ya thatd be a big disadvantage, but i never boat alone anyways.. both times i did last year and i ended up needing a hand with something and getting into a bind.. plus, how could you NOT find someone to go for a ride with you in a raceboat? lol
|
I would buy a Canopy boat in a heartbeat...up here it gets pretty cold and it would be nice to have but it is totally impractical.
My raceboat is impractical too but I dont care. Cool factor is more important than practicality for me, if I want to be practical I wouldnt buy an offshore boat in the first place. |
good call, i know what you mean. The idea of running a motor to redline and holding it there without shifting for hours at a time isnt practical no matter HOW you look at it.. haha
|
They can be very safe if correct procedures are followed. But leave just one of those steps out and it could be disastrious. I would highly reccomend a dunker test and full time air if you plan to run WOT. All canopied race boats have helicopters flying w/ jump divers ready. As a pleasure boat on public waters it could be risky too. It would be easy to hit a PWC , etc.

a dunker test? i do plan to run any boat i own at WOT, a LOT..
