Help setting up 2000 38' fountain

just repowered my 2000 38' fountain it has small steps and side by side all aluminum Paul Pfaff 700 EFI's. Just rigged xr's with imco-2's my X-dimension is 17 in. and my hub is about 3in. below the hull. what props should i run? I've tried 32 maximus 5 blades as well as 29 maximus 5 blades and im getting 57 to 5900 RPM but only 86 MPR top speed, although i didnt hold the rpm for much more than a couple of seconds it seems to be bow heavy. Maybe losing 300lbs in the rear keeps my stern high. any thoughts?

See if you can get a PM to Marginmn on here. He has a 38 Fever, I believe the same small step bottom, and has put a lot of time into prop testing etc. I think he also runs the Imco shorties as well. Good guy, might be able to help you some.

Get ahold of BBLADES He is the prop guru.
It is possible that you could be to high on the X, or need the prop cupped for more bow lift.

Put on a set of -2 imco's and 32 bravo's and she ran 86ish in cool fall weather.
The next spring I yanked the 525's and had a set of 625 Ilmors put in. They had to raise the X to get them to fit so I had a set of IMCO neutral boxes put on in order to compensate for the raised X and for the lighter Ilmors. I figured putting the boxes on would add weight and that hanging the drives further back would also help the CG. It seems to work as the boat is very well balanced but I think I could go higher on the X.
The boat ran 89.4 when Ben Robertson brought a set of tricked out 30 PX5 with him to test it for Ilmor. But it could only turn them around 5100, no where near the recommended RPM. With a set of stock 27 PX5's the boat would run 88 all day long with a load. I was told that cutting off the diffuser ring might help pick up a few mph so I sent them out to have that done. The props sucked after that. Handling went to hell and rpm went up but top speed went down. I had it welded back on and the handling returned but I am still down a MPH or two on the top end vs before I had the diffuser cut off.
The boat did not like bravo or maxims - but it did like a set of herrings I tried but were too tall to spin.
If I were you I"d start with a set of stock px5's and see how they work.
P.s. I run on cumberland which is around 700 feet above sea level. I'd probably be a mph or two better at sea level.

thanks for all the input guys going out this sat out of newport beach ca the santa ana winds are blowing and water lays flat and the temp is in the high 80s i have a set of 32 hydros labbed to see if i can turn em 5400 paul pfaff pulled the starbord motor to fix a oil leek and found my ground wires were on the terminal but not nutted and loose .maybe it will run stronger
