Default 1996 Fountain 35 lighting

Hey Fountain guys, I need to have a fact checked. A friend of mine just bought a 1996 35 Lighting with 454's and blowers, 385 hours on the engines. The blowers are making 2-3psi @ wot 4950 RPMS and he claims the boat runs just over 80mph. This friend has a way of stretching the truth and i was just curious if this is one of those times.
Thanks

Well with out knowing everything, that sounds right??

454 with blowers, could be merc 525sc's if so I wuld say he would be doing over 80 easily.

Find out what pitch props he is running and the gear ratio in the drives probably, 1.5 and we can get you real close.

With Merc 525 SC's it should run 80+ pretty easy. I knew a guy with a '97 that ran mid 80's with that same set up in stock form. The thing here is are they the Merc motors not just some mags with bolt on blowers. The Merc 525's ran 5 lbs of boost stock, the 2-3 lbs sounds like something that's been added to a pair of mags.

Point of reference here, the 99 35Lightning with HP 500 carbs that I had would run a solid 80 most any day, and a little more sucking fumes on a perfect day with the labbed Bravos on it. so your friends number sounds reasonable.

Figured that with the lower boost number, likely his number is still close.

What brand props? If they're 26 Hydros and he'll have to be spinning them 53 - 5400 to see 80. My dad had a 2000 model with carbed 500s and was running 27" Hydros about 5200 rpm at 80 mph if I remember right.
