advice on35 or 42 fountain purchase
Would like to know what you think would be better 42 or 35 pros and cons like 42 but more to tow and limited to big water . 35 better on fuel, less to tow not as good on big water . Also plan on keeping long time.

Where you boat will answer you question. On intercoastal waters, rivers, bays ect. The 35 is a great boat. I had a 2000 Lightning and loved it. If you need more room, or boat on bigger water go 42. Their is an old saying, you can never have too much boat. Big price difference in price between the two, and you will need a truck like an F350 ford or 3500 Chevy, to tow a 42, if you are going very far. I went in the middle, have a 38 Fountain now. Does everything we need it to do.

I would disagree. By the time you get big enough power in there to turn those #6's, you could have an entire package with money to spare and none of the headaches. That's not even counting on the liklihood that whatever happened to the motors also twisted the drives.

josh those look like nice motors but those little blower would have to be twisted hard to make 900hp, i would pull those and add 1071s or larger and not have to spin them as hard.

I have had a 29 and two 35s and can say that if I ever went bigger than 35, it would only be 38. I don't think you gain much in the way of cockpit space with the 42 unless you are talking about the newer staggered 35 setup, then the 42 would gain you some space. Economy on the 35 is better, but have several friends with 42's and they love them. Better for big water and kind of a waste in my opinion unless you have big power and big water.

So you think if you had a 42 with 500's hp will be to slow to keep up with other boats of the same size? Or could you put wipples on it to get some more hp , and how much hp without changing out drives?

They are both great boats, I'd buy as much boat as you can afford, not many peeps say they wish they had a smaller boat, a lot say I wish I had a bigger boat.
