Default I knew better...

Well, It was a slow day up at Skipper Buds and was offered a ride on a fellow drystakers 42 Fountain with the good old 700 and then some/#6 package. I'm guessing 3-5's out of the NE and cool temps to boot.
Lets just say I'm a changed man after that run.
I have been a boater on Lake Michigan since 93 and always loved when the water got bumpy. Thinking my 93 straight bottom 42 with 800's was a great ride.......old news.
I can only say it was the best offshore ride of my life, and we respected the equipment, meaning there was an easy 15% more there, if you were not the one paying the bills.
If anyone says Fountain dosen't make the best riding, best handling powerboat hasn't been fortunate enough to have a ride on one thats driven well.
Was considering a 40SS for the family and keeping mine since it isn't worth much today.
I will have to scrap that idea for now...One more thing to have before I die for sure.
Thanks again for the ride Mike...I knew better.

How is the true maintenance on those motors. I know the Mercury recommendations have changed but it still seems like a lot of down time if you log a lot of hours. (not to mention the expense). How do they compare to the 850's or similar power Sterlings?

Thumbs up

The 525, 600, 700 all have the same maintnence schedules (oil, rebuild, etc). We have sold more than 40 boats with 700's without ONE engine failure. We currently have one customer with 375 hours on his 700's and all we have done is oil change & yearly water pumps.

Very tough package to beat!!!!

35 700 - 120+MPH

38 700 - 114+MPH

42 700 - 102+MPH

47 Twin 700 - 90MPH

47 Triple 700 - 110MPH
