fountain and rough water

OK, last weekend 5 people full tank o fuel 2 coolers. 1.0-1.5 foot chop 69.8 on gps dragging the tabs a little. today calm water slight rollers nothing big, 3 people one cooler + full o gas 71.3 gps. when water got choppy later in the day boat picked up to 73.5. boat is a 94 single step 27 with 510 with blower removed. 1.3 imco drive with 26rh rh bravo prop. 4500 rpm, all runs excep the rougher water had to stay on th stick a little. i now fountains are excelent rough water boats but does this sound right???

let say they where 2 to 3 footer's = more speed
let say 5 to 7 footer = less speed
1 to 2 footer's = less speed
most high performance v bottoms boat will run better in a 2 to 3 foot chop then in flat water or real rough water .

yea i always heard that highter chop was better just never noticed it before or paid attention. was realy surprised when the weight diffrence was 300 lbs diffrent and performance wasnt much better.
