42 lightning cabin head room?
Whats the headroom in a 99 42 lightning? 4'10",5'0"??? anybody know? thanks
|
good question! I was in a 42 once but did not measure it... felt smaller than my 35-7...
|
Just enough for Reggie to stand up!
|
You looking at the one at shogrens again. If it's there by december I'm going to have to buy that thing!! As far as height I'd say 5'10. Just a enough for me.
|
5'10? I doubt...
I'm sure I can't stand in there and I'm 5'8.. |

Team shogren what's the head room on 99 fountain lighting ?
|
my wife is 5'0". she can stand up in a Formula 353 or 382. we looked at a 35 X, no way can she stand up/ I'm guessing 4'10" in a 35X. I'm just looking at all 42's in general but thats the year/years I can afford....1999 to mabey 2002

Im say high 4's .I have had only one girl that could stand up in my Hustler:rolleyes:
And you wanted to stand her up for what? Just curious! :lolhit: |
In my 35 I have plenty of head room with the hatch open, plus the view is great. In a 42 you get 2 hatches which means double the possibilities. These are performance boats ..... translation ..... drive it, put up with the lack of amenities and enjoy it for what is was ment to be.
Would you buy a Z06 Corvette for the wife to take the kids to soccer practice? It's real close to the same deal here. |
it is under 5'

Who cars about the headroom - the cabin is a place to store your cockpit cover. You dont like it go buy a sea ray.
|
35 Fountain..... Do you always have a stupid comment? Its a simple question about cabin hieght. Thats what a forumn is for... to find out info that you dont know. I see you must be one of those guys that " KNOWS IT ALL " I already have a 38' express cruiser with 6'2" head room so thanks for your advice but I'll pass:angry-smiley-038::angry-smiley-038::angry-smiley-038:

There is pleanty of head room. - sorry I could not resist
|
It's 4'10". The cabin looks great in pictures and the layout is actually pretty good, but you should actually get in one. Some people don't mind, but for me the height is a killer. It is like a coffin. I overnight a lot so it makes a big difference. All a matter of preference

I nearly bought a 42, but the lack of headroom caused my back to ache. So I bought a 32 sportfish cruiser. I overnight nearly every time I take the boat out.
|
35 fountain..... no problem. I do overnight alot and dont want to feel to cramped. If I can get a 42 I think I can learn to live that though. Got to give up somethings for the best handling, fastest v bottem out there!!!!!!
|
I think 47'. Man there are some deals out there on tripples!! If your not hammering it all the time the tripples would be a great choice. I have had both. I also like the 47 because it comes with all the overnight goodies. That is the only reason I went to the 47. I did a ton of overnights on the 42 also but just loved the 47. The 47' tows harder.

I think you would be unhappy with the 42 if you overnight a lot. Having said that, the 47 is a big boat to trailer. You need at least a 450 to be legal. My 450 tows my boat great but the trailer is a Myco tandem dually and a phenomenal tailer. A lot of guys tow with mediumduty conversions. If you haven't towed anything that big, heavy, and long it is a real learning experience. |

I've been looking for the right combination of creature comforts, looks and speed for 2 years. Here is what I narrowed it down to for what it's worth. 38 or 39' Nor Tech -- 5'10" headroom -- very nice cabin A/C and generator -- triple digits with 750 HP. 37' Active Thunder -- Roughly 5' 5" headroom -- very nice cabin A/C generator optional -- triple digits with 700-750 HP THIS IS NOT A SLAM AGAINST FOUNTAIN, JUST FACT -- My Baja 302 (SOLD!!!) had more cabin room / headroom than a 38" Fountain I looked at at the Charlotte boat show, but the Fountain had one HELL of a sunpad (staggard motors). |
Another option if you are not trailering a lot and just want a cruiser with more speed would be a 38 Fountain Express Cruiser (2002 and newer). When they redesigned the sport cruisers in '02, they made them much bigger and wider. (I think the 38 has a 10'9" beam) That makes them impractical to trailer them a lot but some still do.
That boat will have almost the same room as your Vista and go at least twice as fast with the right power. You're not likely to hit triple digits but if you want a nice ride with lots of cabin room and respectable speed, the 38 Express is certainly an option. |
Thanks guys.... I would go for a 47 but not with a 2500hd non duelly. I have thought about a 38 fountain express but still kinda wide to tow alot. I really hate to dissapiont you guys but I'm ready to put a deposit on the 99 38 scarab thats here....price is right and I know somewhat of the boats history. Decent size cockpit and cabin. One day I'll have a Cig or 42 Lightning......one day.:bigbird:Thanks again everybody for your help

Going from a 378 Four Winns Vista to a 42 will be a huge step down in cabin size. Even a 47 cabin is considerably smaller but I think you'd be ok with it. I looked at all of them and wound up with a 47 Sport Cruiser because even the 47 lightning has only 5'7" headroom.

Is your trailer a 5th wheel?
The 450 is much better. It is more usable, more maneuverable, and bounces a lot less. |
Sorry if this is off subject, but I am very interested in seeing pictures of that trailer set up. I had to go with a F650 because of the total weight. The F450 was too close to the max bumper tow limits with my rig.
|
I have pictures but not sure how to post them.

You have know how to drive Fountains.
|
I think theres more chips on peoples shoulders than opinions here:lolhit:. Of course your AT is the fastest, best handling, good looking, super power, bionic, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound boat!!!!!What was I thinking to voice my opinion???????? :party-smiley-004:
|
Actually, my Fountain is a 47 Sport Cruiser and it is a great boat. My only complaint is that the deck is much taller than a lightning so it looks dorky (kind of like an Active Thunder); however, this allows for much more headroom in the cabin, so I can see why the Active Thunder Cult members LOVE their boats even though they look goofy.

Seems like you took it to heart...I made a comment about a fountain,in the fountain section and voiced my opinion of what I think is a great boat. Its not that I bashed A/T in the A/T forumn. Foul language only comes out of foul people..... even smaller people do it over the net. Trust me, I'll get over it I hope you do to. |
I have a 99 42' lightning. My wife is 5'1" her head touches the ceiling when standing up at the entrance to the bathroom. Headroom gets slightly lower as you proceed forward. Hope this helps, any other questions PM me!

Never said Fountain was a bad boat, only voiced my opinion on the topic, i have ridden on lots of them and do like them very much, but your quote was pretty clear on your attempt to bash me, no hard feelings rubbing is racing. lol |
I wish they offered a taller deck 42. The boat is a phenomenal performer and practical to trailer but the cabin height is a killer for me. For most people, the Express Cruisers are a solution, but I still like to trailer to different places for variety. Great Lakes are too cold the first half of the season but great later on and so on.

The decks on a Active Thunder look sleek, giving them about 5'3" of headroom.. it all depends on where and who is measuring ....Correct me if I'm wrong...I think you were referring to the Sonic, which is some what similar, but raised so much through out the majority of the deck that you can get 6' plus in their cabins.. I will agree with you at certain angles it is not the most attractive..but you do have headroom..which is important to me...Always a compromise somewhere.. |

I totally agree, their 42 is their best performing model..actually that bottom is one of the top 3 performing 40' bottoms period. The decks on all the Fountains need to be revised, massaged, and brought into the new millenium. That boat with about 5'10" would be the ticket. Where do I sign up...:grinser010: |
