Default 35 Lightning speeds. Staggered models w. stock power?

Is it reasonable to expect 103-105 mph. or more from a new 35 Lighting with 525's? The Mrs. and I looks to buy new boat soon, and would like some info from other owners.

All info from other owners is very welcome

Thanks

I would say that 100+ should be a reasonable expectation out of a new 35 staggered 525 boat. How much over 100 I think would depend on props and set up.

I ve run many of these at poker runs and it maybe be tough to hit 100, maybe 96-97 all day. Talk with Shogren marine, they can give you a honest number

I looked at the new 35 staggered and there is no room in the cockpit. I love the new 38 staggered, more room and 96 all day with 525's..

Good luck with your search...

What kind of speeds would a 38 see with a pair of Ilmor 650's with Indy drives or Merc 600sci's with xr's? We would like to go a 100+ with 4 ppl and about a 3/4 tank of fuel. Does anyone know if there is a huge difference in price between this boat with a pair of Merc 600's and xr drives vs the Ilmor 650 package?

Scott @ shogren do youknow?

We really apreaciate all the help. We live in Copengagen Denmark, so we do not have a lot of expert around here!

If your looking to run 100+ in a 38 you might as well look at 700 sci boat with a 6 drive. Reliable as you can go for that speed. Ours runs 112 with 4 people and full tanks of fuel. Its run a best of 114, not loaded with people and had a light fuel load. We also owned a 38 600 sci xr boat. Its a great boat but its not going to get you to 100. It will get you close. Depending on what water you boat in their are a couple of deals on used low hour 42/700 sci boats, they will run about 105 some faster depending on setup and prop selection, and about the same price as a 38/700......how much is fuel in Denmark???

You might be interested to look at this 2008 model with staggered 496 HO.
If nothing else, it's probably the nearer to Denmark you will find.

Fuel in denmark is about 6-6½ dollars a gallon.

I can't use the 700sci's. They are not CE certified.
A 42 is too big. I can't tow it myself, because of the restrictions here.

We want to buy a new boat, and I must say that a 35 with 496's is way off what we want, but thanks for the link.

The plan is to have the boat build in the us, and then import it. I have talked to Ilmor about serivce on the engines, and I think it will be easier to have Ilmor's done in dk.

Another reason why I am considering the Ilmor package, is that it will save the boat about 600+ pounds, and they are not blown motors.

My best buddy has a 2008 35' Fountain with staggered 525's. It is a little different than any of the others out there. It was set up by Brian, the Fountain geru for high performance. It still has 106 on the gps recall that Brian got on his shake down run at the factory. I have personally run this boat at 103 mph with two of us in the boat and that was with about 80 gallons of fuel. This past July, with full tanks of fuel (160 gallons) and three adult men with a full cooler and luggage we ran a solid 100 mph in the 'Jammin on the James' Poker Run. Out of over 100 boats we were the first naturally asperated V-bottom to get to the first stop. He is considering moving up to a 38 w/700's so he might be putting his 35 on the market early next year. It has very low hours and is in pristine condition.

Would this happen to be a pure white boat with blue Fountain graphics? How many hours on this boat? Any idea what he is asking? If he is looking at a new one, he knows they are going real cheap. Thanks.
