Default Anyone run X Boxes on a 47??

I am curious if anyone has expieriece with running Imco extension boxes on a '02 47 Fountain with 575 trips. I was curious to the results seeing that it may take much more leverage to lift the nose than available without overtrimming.
thanks for any positive or negative remarks.

I have only been in one 47 it had twin 700's and ran a solid 95mph. But it is a BEAST, its big and long, I don't think much will get that nose up. I think adding boxes will just be a waste of money and time.

Which boat is that? Is it a 47 or a 42.? I would like to hear any thoughts. Since this 47 I have runs in the 90's with a stepped bottom making bubbles I would think the drives could use cleaner water.

Also, I hear Donzi Marine in Sarasota Has my old 42 "Ohio Steel" . They are takin it in on trade right now and I assume it will be on the market in a few weeks or so.

teach me master.....so if you see bubbles when you are running the drives should be extended out more? How much more speed could you gain? Thanks, Tom

Damn, mine only makes foam, I guess when it grows up, it will blow bubbles.

Its a 47 http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o15641-en.html

I don't think boxes would much of anything for the total dollar and work involved. I really can't see 3 drives not having enough leverage unless they are to high.
I think you could try drive spacers to see if there is a better sweet spot between the center and outboard drives X dim.
90mph is a great speed out of your 47.
Whipple has some up grades for the 575's. I think they get them close to 700HP with the stage 2 kit if I remember correctly.
ASM gets 80hp more out of the 575 with this kit...

You typically need to raise the drives when you add extension boxes. I do not have any personal experience with the 47, but my old Eliminator handled much better in rough water with an IMCO box and did not require as much trim. Fountain designed notches into their hull to acheive the same end result. I frequently hear people breaking balls about the running length of Fountains, but have also seen other high end builders adopting similar designs.

Default AZ Speed

I remember they offered an upgrade for the 575 and did a search to find that the majority of people either get nowhere after thier purchase from lack of communication and REALLY got nowhere since the motors toasted in many many instances.
I think they were even a victim of the "BEWARE" forum.
Whipple would be an excellent upgrade but I am not needing speed at 93 (but who wouldnt want more) just want to have the handling to be best in rough conditions since I always seem to find myself hunting them down for some fun.!
