Are you running your props in or out?

What kind of props?

What have you notice when you changed them.

Winter, nothing else to do,,,,,,,,,,,,,

US1 Fountain 01-11-2010 11:03 AM

When in forward, I'll turn them out. When in reverse, I'll spin them in. :)

I saw 100% improvement when swapped to out, with zero loss of speed. Boat even felt more stable when at speed with them out.

Don't you have class? ;)

Wildman_grafix 01-11-2010 11:14 AM

Yea, doing homework now. Yuk.

topendmarine 01-11-2010 12:22 PM

Mine spin in, tried out, but was ill handling around the marina. In between props right now, I changed lowers in the fall and have only had time to test a few, but the hydromotive p4x is looking like a winner right now

jmoore1225 01-11-2010 11:34 PM

Mine are spinnin out 26 4 blade mach drivers, deffinately trying some new props this spring.... All your guys boats are stepped correct??? Topend mines pretty difficult around the docks with em spinning out

Wildman_grafix 01-12-2010 06:51 AM

Mine is stepped, US1 told me that his boat was better around the docks spinning out????

How do your boats handle at top speed?

Mine is a bit "loose" around high seventies into the 80's.

RaggedEdge 01-12-2010 07:24 AM

Out is always better around the docks, top end handling and speed will vary with hull and prop set up. Fountains generally favor being spun in on the upper end.

"Loose" is fast, that is if you can drive it that way! :D

Wildman_grafix 01-12-2010 07:39 AM

It didn't take to long to get used to it, they will get into a chime walk pretty easy but not hard to get out. I will add a tab switch to my controls this winter.

I just need to leave the wife at the dock on those runs.:lolhit:

fountainfan42 01-12-2010 07:43 AM

spinning in

topendmarine 01-12-2010 08:52 AM

Sorry, you are right, I was wrong, mine spin in and it handles like its on rails to top end(90+ GPS)! Its a single step 96 and comes out of the hole like a dream. We tested 32 maximus on it and still had no problem.

That quite the opposite from the standard. Out has always been the best when around docks.

Wild, you can leave the wife with us. We'll take care of her, maybe even convert het to a cruiser person.

Oh no you don't I have to fight that battle already,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:nhl_fight:

Maybe I need to get you back on the boat more this year and convert you back.:lolhit:

jmoore1225 01-12-2010 02:04 PM

hmmm i've only got about a year experience with the boat boat & twin engines for that matter, i know im not the best @ docking anyhow but with out a little throttle input the boat has lil to no response in moving hardly just putting it in & outta gear.... ive gotten a best of 69 on gps 502 mag efi's, lil disappointed really hoping it would run 72-73. are my expectstions to high? my tachs ares off so not real sure of the rpms, getting new guages & im trying some new props this spring hoping for some gains
wildman..... us1... where do you guys normally boat? im about 30 minutes from brookville lake & go to cumberland quite often

Monroe, I like Cumberland and Dale Hollow but the wife works every friday and monday, makes it hard for us to get there.

I have a friend that boats at brookville, you seen this one before?

I can run 75 with my 502's. Running balanced 26" Hydros. Have seen better if the stars are aligned right. Seems about average for this setup.

I'm at Monroe every weekend from mid May till Nov 1, with maybe 1 at Cumberland or Loto. Come on over this summer. Might force me to haul the Fountain down for the weekend and we can make a showing, otherwise, I'll be in the cruiser.

In- Out

I purchased my 96 32 fever last week on test run we turned the props in same as out 81 on gps but chine walked in no walk out 30 bravos. My first twin and much more stable than my singel at the same speed.
Rich

jmoore1225 01-12-2010 05:01 PM

Wildman I believe so.... Brookville is a pretty boring place but it's close by & has a nice lil restraunt on it. Us1 sounds like that's all I'm prolly gonna get out of her then if your hittin 75 as yours is stepped & mine is a straight bottom

253 01-12-2010 05:30 PM

My 35 Lightning, smooth bottom, turns out, Hydromotive Q4, 28 pitch, runs mid 80's on gps, very stable at all speeds, I think I need 30 pitch for more top end.

Wildman_grafix 01-12-2010 10:10 PM

Sounds like I need to try turning them out this year.

Rich,
Where did you do that test run at?

RICHARD CUNY 01-13-2010 05:21 PM

WILDMAN
Idid the test run in Quincy Florida

I mean if you have the building I could help you with the graphics dependng on how much you want to do.

I think US1 will be selling his boat this summer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, maybe. It's clean.

US1 Fountain 01-15-2010 01:10 PM

Wildman is the guy for graphics. I've seen him work the Etch-O- Sketch like no other.

Yeah, my boat may be for sale. You know what the difference is between for sell and sold?? About 3 yrs. :)

Wildman_grafix 01-15-2010 01:25 PM

Not if is RED:lolhit:

topendmarine 01-16-2010 10:07 AM

If monroe is like I remember, the "wake makers" may be a good option. Id rather be on top of it with the hammer down though! right now I'd settle for going out in a fishing boat, I miss summer!

SPEEDFREEK 01-17-2010 07:43 AM

I have a 98 32 fever w/t-502 mag MPI's, Bravo drives and Hydromotive 27p quad 4s. On gps I get 79 mph but keep in mind salt water is faster than fresh, Bob Teague in Powerboat mag is a huge wealth of knowledge. According to him on a stepped bottom with a high X turning in is faster, out is better around the dock.:cool-smiley-027:

jc3 01-23-2010 08:14 AM

I have a 32 with twin 525 SC's with 30 pitch props and runs 88 on gps.

cyberuss 03-10-2010 12:36 PM

I run 30P labbed B1's with Imco -2 shorties turning in. best gps so far is 105.3 in light chop on the Columbia river, single step......custom Russell Marine 572's dyno'd at a hair over 700 hp each :evilb:

jmoore1225 03-11-2010 07:45 PM

Bet that's a fun ride @ 105

Wildman_grafix 03-12-2010 09:32 PM

Do most agree getting props lab finished worth it?

homelessbob 03-20-2010 11:16 PM

anyone can help me?

I am just about to get my boat back from my mechanic, he had it for the winter, I have a 1999 32 fountain with supercharged 502's also making 700hp and 750 torque. Here is the thing, when i gave him the boat it was doing 98mph and just about hitting the rev limiters, now we took the boat out and it did 90mph, but hit the rev limiters really easy. All he did was increase fuel pressure, and put bigger oil cooling systems. He says I need to change my props from Bravo 34p 4 blade to 31-32p 5 blades. can anyone tell me why such a change?

US1 Fountain 03-21-2010 06:45 PM

Something ain't right. If it still was about hitting the rev limiters with the same props, it'd be going the exact same speed. But now you are hitting the limiters, you should be going faster.
Something else had been changed.

253 03-28-2010 01:44 PM

Has the speedo went goofy, maybe reading slower.

Beak Boater 03-29-2010 05:34 AM

Are the rpms's the same? Now you are going 8 mph slower? Not adding up. 5 blades are usually a couple of mph slower on the top end unless you put shorter drives on it, and your slip is really high.

RICHARD CUNY 04-28-2010 06:53 PM
