Speed Fountain 47 Lightning BIG power...
I would like some opinions from you about the speed of a new Fountain 47. The red full custompainted boat (also used in their brochure) from 2006, runs 123 mph. And there have been a boat with custom 3x1000hp egnines sold at Lake Cumebrland that did 135mph. with IMCO (If I remember right) outdrives. I have driven a 47 with 3x900 Carb engines and No 6 drives at 120 (but would have ran faster with better props (the engines had 6350 rpms for a few seconds. Not enough to get real top speed).
I wonder what will a new 47 Lightning run with 3x1075 and 3xNo6s and the best propellers in the world..? I am sure the propellers of 2010 are possible to squeeze out more speed than the props on the 3x900 boat I ran which was a 2001 MY boat. Think about it. A 2x1075 hp boat does 120, even if Fountain now anounce it goes 115. One axtra 1075 should definately make it quite a bit faster, but HOW MUCH...? And yes, I have got a price from the factory on this package. They will build it.
Thanks for your input.

A 47 with trip 1075's? You must have DEEP pockets and own a lot of gas stations. LOL Buy a copy of the Stampede boat with twin 1075's and have Brian go through it and it will run mid 140's.

Gas is the cheap part of running 1075's......
100 hour refresh.. 3 x $27,000 = $81,000
(guess between easy and hard running) 150 gallons an hour x100 hours = 15,000 gallons x $4.50 gallon = $67,500
$81000
$67500 +
-----------
$148, 500 / 100hours = $1,485 an hour operating cost
(provided of course, you don't blow something up......) did I mention drive and trany maint costs??

Yes, I agree about the huge running cost. It is insane. But I can tell you this. It cost always alot more to be No 1 than to be second in many things in life. In my opinion, Fountain is the one that has by far the best boats of all powerboat builders. The 47 is the biggest, most "user friendly", longest and sleekest and best looking Fountain made to date. The best name, the biggest, the fastest V, the best interior, the best engines.... alltoghether I think it is a great value even if it is terribly expensive. Compare it to a 51 Outerlimits or a Nor-Tech 50 Vee. It is like comparing a Ferrari 550 to a DB9 or Continental GT. The Ferrari is a racecar in comparison!! The other two are just slower and dont handle as well even if they are more expensive.
I am working on a customer for this package. After spending nearly 300.000 USD in upgrades on his 1998 47 Lightning (and really struggle to sell it), he is now FED UP and want to get something that will last a long time and outrun everything in the ocean, so that he don't need to upgrade in many years.. Then the initial price can be swallowed. And he will be the only one in the world owning this great package.
Just curious what sppeds would be possible to reach!! I will ensure that if we come to an agreement, you will see the most custom build super Fountain EVER made (and maybe for many years to come). The guy is pretty crazy and race his Porsche Carrera GT like a little hot rod.
