Default Help, 35 Fountain needs TLC - How much $$$?

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2000 35 ft with twin 500's at a seriously discounted price. The problem is the boat was abused - left out to weather - has ripped seats and about every inch of the boat's fiberglass needs some serious buffing, waxing, detailing - not to mention a few nicks that will need to be repaired.

Before I decide to take on this project Fountain I want to get a handle on how much it is going to cost me to bring this former gem back into showroom (or close to) condition. Does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to have the interior of a 35 fountain totally replaced - every inch of vinyl - and to have a professional totally detail all the fiberglass on the boat?

Does the fountain factory take on such projects? I have heard that the Donzi factory does that for their boats.

I'm in the Kentucky/Indiana area and would appreciate any advice you could give me.

thanks.

Marginmn,
I just received a flyer form Fountain about up dating interiors, freshening engines etc.. Jeff Harris is the head of customer service and could give you some prices. 252-975-2000 Make sure you are sitting down first. There is nothing cheap about a Fountain especially the price tag. Fountain does some really nice upholstery work.

I went to see a one-year-old 35 lightning that was supposed to be like new. Under 70 hours freshwater only. It looked like someone had used sandpaper to get the scum line off the boat. Every rub-rail had been cracked. There was even standing water in some of the cabin storage areas. I wouldn't treat a Jet Ski that way much less 150,000.00+ dollar boat. Some people don't deserve what they have.

Dan

BTW, I sure hope Reggie never saw your post about Fountains ugly stock price.

Default Thanks for the info.

BTW, did the flier give you any idea how much it would cost to replace an interior?

Wow, just looked at FPWR for the first time in months and that little sucker really took off - the beak rises!

No prices, it says call for estimates. Make sure your sitting down first. The bolsters will be the most. Let us know what they tell you.

Marginmn,
If the interior price from Fountain gives you sticker shock, look around in your area for a good vinyl shop. I just dropped my 42 off at Auto Top in Holland, MI. They use heavy duty vinyl and they are using all new foam, and the total cost including the bolsters is $4600. A buddy said he spent almost $10K to have fountain do the same thing in all white.

Marginm,

Just a thought, if the previous owner treated the boat like crap, he probably drove it the same way. I would reduce my offer to include a rebuild of the motors. If he never bothers to cover it up, I doubt he changed the oil and filters?? Just a thought.

Default Well, I spoke to someone who inspected the boat.

It's not a pretty story. The vynil is not only bad but the padding under it is rotting; the boat has soaked up a ton of water -literally; seals on the drives are probably shot from being left in the water - and so on.........

It's a passola for me.

Keep looking. It’s a buyers market out there.
