Pulling a 47

I'm picking up a 47 this weekend I have 1,400 miles to go round trip. I have a 06 2500 Chev. DuraMax with the Allison pulling around local should be ok but this trip north could be a little bit diffrent. Anyone pulling one of these or know someone who is and with what.

My 32 makes a 2500 wag much over 70..... That's a hell of a lot of boat to be moving w/ just a 2500.....

I think I would go rent a 1 ton truck or have it hauled.

Pulling a 47 with a 2500 isn't a bad idea, it is so much worse than a bad idea that simply calling it a bad idea will not suffice. :)

Also keep in mind that you could void your insurance pulling it with a truck that is under rated for the load. I dont know what a 2500 is rated for but thats a lot of boat . my 2ct

47 trailer

If you are using a tag trailer it will be tough to run safe over 50mph. The trailer will sway once and it may cause your truck to lose control of steering.
I use an F350 crew dually and moving to a 450 and I have a gooseneck. I tows extremely well. just need truck to be rated correctly.
DONT EVEN try to tow it without brakes!!!!! 9side note.... that since the rig is so heavy that the only brake controller for hyd/elec brakes that actually works without jerking the truck out from under you is the Brake Rite unit. Once the pendulum style units get jeked they go nuts!!)
Good luck and get a company to haul it if you can wait. I would NEVER try it with mine after traveling in all situations.

I wouldn't do it with a 3/4 ton. I pulled a 47 with trips with my 450 and it did great. I have pulled a 51 Outerlimits with trip 850's and the 450 pulled it really well. Definatley get a dually under it.

I pull my 47' with a f350 and it is scary pulling it over 70 mph.

I pull our 1993 triple 42 on a Myco with a 2008 GMC ext cab 2500 4x4 duramax no sway or issues. I pulled it from Lake of the Ozarks to Grand Lake this year and was surprised how easy it was to trailer. Truck is stock other than 20's and Nittos.

Those with 35 or 38s, will a F250 Superduty with a V10 pull ok?

1980Condor460 08-18-2010 07:13 AM

I pull my 35 with a 2500 HD running the 6.0, it burns a lot of fuel but no other issues. It is all that truck wants coming up the ramp though.

Thanks for the input

I think you all are exactly right I'm leaving Richmond Va. heading to Quebec. It's to damn far for that little truck!

Congrats on the new boat though

I pulled my 02 38 Lightning with a 97 F150 for a year. Super charger and airbags helped. Trailer has disc brakes. Definately kept it local but it towed excellent. Got about 8MPG and a lot of WTF's. I finally got a 1T diesel. I think it towed so well because of the trailer (aluminum Myco) and how I set the bags and tongue height.

DollaBill 08-18-2010 04:29 PM

Thats wayyyyy to much boat for that truck. Thats the reason I went with a 42 a few years ago. You need a 650 or better and I say gooseneck. Have it moved by a larger truck. If anything happens you're SOL cuz you're insurance company willlaugh at you and deny the claim

I would check the distribution of the boat's weight on your trailer. Sounds to me like your not balanced or you have a budget trailer. Not trying to insult you in any way, but there are inexpensive aluminum trailers out there that are not engineered (believe it or not) properly. Your axles could be out of alignment too. Measure that distance from the end of each frame rail to the axle on both sides. If you are "pullin' it in style" with a Myco, please disregard my post completely! LOL
