Bilge Pump floats
#1
I have a 98, 35 Fountain.
The safety floats on both pumps won't come on. This tells me its got to be a wiring issue (both pumps can't be bad).
Does anyone know which color wire feeds the pump, is it a constant 12 volt? I can't get to the wires at the pump or for that matter....the damn pump!
They work fine when I turn them on manually.

Can't help you with the wiring but I replaced both of my bilge pumps with these 2 years ago and they work great and use less power than the ones they were in the boat, so if you had a bad leak the pumps would stay on a little longer. These pumps are only 750 GPH but the same model, the ones I actually purchased was like 1100 GPH each.

Sure it's not the direct hot wire for the full time 12v? Check the breaker under the rear seat. Just a thought

If you send them back to Lovett, he'll fix or replace them. I sent mine in while engine was out and I was very happy with the service.
They flow test, replace both belts, etc etc...
It's a worth while investment since most Fountains can sink easily in my opinion compared to other boats in the class...

Its got to be a wiring issue, the breaker is ok, I found a butt connector on the "Red w/ white tracer" wire, that splices a "Red w/ Purple tracer wire, not sure where that goes but a buddy of mine told me he had the same problem & it was the red/white wire that was the 12 volt hot wire. He ran a new wire to the battery and all is good.
I just find it hard to believe that both floats are not working.
I'll check it out and let everyone know. Ran out of day light today.
Thanks Joe

I agree it's a wiring issue, or a freak thing. I believe you'll have 2 hot leads going to each pump; 1 from the dash for manual operation, the other that is fulll time hot coming from the breakers and feeding the floats. It is hot even with tehebattery switches off
