Default 38sc reviews?

looking at a early 90s 38sc in fair condition, Interested in peoples reviews on the boat? Any major issues related to them? I may have to put 2-4k in the boat to get it where id like it,(refresh one drive, repair rear bench, refresh dash) what would be a good price in this current market? I am a mechanic so labors almost free for most things but this being my first big boat i don't want to over extend myself. Love the huge cabin and AC is a great feature!!

Fever lower hull, Have driven several of these very sensitive to wind you will have to use your tabs allot to correct . other than the windage issue not a bad boat, the look(upper deck) takes a bit of getting use to .

Great boat! Lots of space. Handles nice. Great in rough water. Perfect boat if you like a powerboat but need a cruiser to weekend on.

if you are planing to use it at moderate speeds, get it. if it has , or you are thinking of, bigpower than forget it. that hull is almost unsuitable to drive at speeds. dangerous. especiaslly full stagger. very narrow, high deck, stagger, all make for an ill handling boat. i love, LOVE, beaks but this one is far from the stature of a fountain.

Got a funny story about one.....

Friend of a good friend just had to have a Fountain. He already owned the gold medallion hanging from the neck chain so he needed the boat to go with it. Dave is all flash, big wad of money, stripper girlfriends, insane gambling but broke frequently as well.

He finds one a few years old, my buddy goes to pick it up but doesn't realize what a 38 SC is. He gets to the dock and boat screams neglect and the boat is visually gross to look at. My buddy does his best to talk Dave out of buying it. Dave is mentally committed to owning this Fountain despite the poor conditon. Pays the owner cash and goes on his way, no survey no sea trial. Dave "knows motors and this thing sounds great." On the 20 mile ride home, one motor overheats (gauge never moved) and Dave limps it to a storage yard (rack). He then proceeds to rip out both motors and he is going to build a "weapon" of a speed boat. Fast forward 3-4 years, boat further deteriorates due to sun damage and NEVER gets motors back in. Motors get built then parted out yet Dave pays storage for years on this non-running boat all the while talking like it is going back in the water next weekend......

Boat is abandoned at the storage yard and later sold off. Motors are parted out and Dave probably spent 50K or better on that 20 mile boat ride.....yet he still talks smack, it always starts out "remember that 38 Fountain I had" despite most people not knowing the boats true history/demise!
