Can't wait to try them, placed the order today.

Cool props. Only heard of one other boat with them, but no results, so this should be interesting. Good luck with those.

dykstra 02-09-2011 03:45 PM

Keep us posted.

Beak Boater 02-09-2011 05:52 PM

Their is a 38/600 boat locally here that runs a set of those 7 blade Hering's. First time I saw them at the ramp I had to count the blades 3 or 4 times before I was sure what I was seeing.
Nothing to compare the performance to on those, they were on the boat when he bought it.

Single With Twins 02-10-2011 07:09 AM

Ben and Jeff at Herring are very helpful, a pleasure dealing with them. This will be the first time for these props on a 35, they have been run on a 38 and 42.

Thanks Hering and as always Double R.

575cat 02-10-2011 08:56 AM

what about the issue of more blades more drag , but then again maybe less chance of blade breakage on high Xs or full surfaceing props.

Single With Twins 02-10-2011 10:33 AM

They are going to give the boat more stern lift, so less drag on the boat itself and the 7 blades will help distribute the stress and yes hopefully no more ripping blades........did three last year! ouch! :)

Pokher Ace 02-10-2011 10:38 AM

Definite bravo killer!!

eddie 02-10-2011 03:28 PM

How did the 42 do with them?

Not a drive killer if you know how to drive your boat properly! If you are doing 40mph and then decide to pin the sticks....well ya, drive killer! accelerate properly and easy, not stressing the drives.......it is simple. People always think it is getting on plane with big wheels that kill the drives, sure you have to be aware but it is more common that on acceleration is when you break the drive.

24CS Boy 02-13-2011 07:26 PM

I wonder how that prop would do on a 24cs?

Hope ur not in the prop business with that theory.

Not at all, just a regular guy who loves boating just like you. A while ago it was explained that way to me and I have always kept it in mind while driving my boats......knock on wood I have had goo luck with drives......if I am wrong by all means I will eat my words but it made sense to me and was simply passing along my theory. At theend of the day I am easy coming out of the hole as well as easy while accelerating.

Any one else have a different theory or advice? I am open to hearing as I obviously do not want to start chewing up drives...... :)

Hmmmmmm, I sure would like to test drive the right hand one of those on my cat :) With the snow all disappearing, I find myself looking at the shrink wrap and counting the days until boating season is back.

Did you send me a pm? Never got it.

sent it on facebook to you......Jeff at Hering called, props are ready and will be shipped to cape coral end of week, doubt they will get tested anytime soon but maybe second week of march......Erik, you going to run them in the PR?

erik1976 03-02-2011 08:18 AM

Thanks Jay but i dont want to be the first guy to scuff those props!! Not too late to fly down with us, we'll throw them on my boat and YOU can run them first!!!

A.O. Razor 03-16-2011 11:01 AM

Just had to ask. Any news on testing? Would sure like to know how these 7 blades perform.

custom29scarab 05-04-2011 08:22 PM

interested in your results????

Single With Twins 05-09-2011 09:20 AM

received the props a few weeks ago and they look great, just returned from Hawaii and hoping to get on the water within the next couple of weeks to try them out........will send my results asap.

Jay

chattviper 05-09-2011 09:24 AM

I'm waiting on my set too!! Can't wait!

575cat 05-09-2011 09:48 AM

do you feel any difference in attitude, so called stern lift , they, whoever they are say the more blades the more stern lift , do you think there is any truth to that ? also what rake are you using.

Marginmn 05-09-2011 10:22 AM

What's the cost on a set of these and does Herring stand behind them if you throw a blade or is it on the buyer?

Single With Twins 05-10-2011 07:01 AM

They have a 21 degree rake.
Hering does stand behind the product, I had a conversation with Ben and Jeff that left me feeling confident.
These props will produce more stern lift. Ben gave me some pointers.

Single With Twins 06-15-2011 07:04 AM

Well, I have had the boat out three times with the new props and all in all a success.
The feel of the boat is very different, very solid feeling.
Better on plain for sure, still not great but that is the high x dimension obviously.
Mid range speeds are amazing.......this past weekend I did a poker run and on the second leg (so still a lot of fuel) with 5 people in the boat at 4100rpm GPS bounced from 72 - 73 mph, unreal.
I am not getting the rpm on top end however, best is just over 4900rpm and it is 91mph. (on another thread I made a typo and put 4600).......I am not going to send the props back as I do not want to mess with the possibility of screwing up the mid-range. No rush but when I can i want to run with just me and a lot less fuel to see what "my" reggie number is.

Oh and the most important part is.......they look cool!!! haha

Jay

billeickmann 06-15-2011 12:51 PM

They DO look cool. Are you running short drives with them? What power do you have?

1 MAIDEN AMERICA 06-15-2011 01:28 PM

2009 35 Lightning does 91MPH??? What's up with that? Sounds 10MPH slow, at least. What was the factory number?

+1

Marginmn 06-15-2011 02:10 PM

And what kind of numbers did it run with the previous props?

Wildman_grafix 06-15-2011 08:40 PM

496's?

They are xr shorties sportmasters for drives with merc 525's.

Keep in mind that 91 mph was at just over 4900 rpm with 5 people in the boat and almost a full bellly of fuel......tank was ttoaly full and only had about 20 miles of running out of it when I ran that speed......seems pretty good to me.

Single With Twins 06-16-2011 07:18 AM

Best I got out of it was 98mph with previous props, light on fuel and only two in the boat at 5200rpm

Single With Twins 06-16-2011 07:20 AM

The "Reggie" number on the factory sheet is 102mph with 6 blade 31 herings.

Wildman_grafix 06-16-2011 08:34 AM

What was your goal for the 7 blades?

When you got the boat did you have the 6 blade 31's?

Overall how do you like the boat, I have wondered about these, seem like a nice size and shouldn't be bad working on it with the Staggered motors.

Speaking frankly, if you can only pull 4900 RPM out of a set of 525s then those props are just wrong for that boat and engine package. I'm sure Mercury racing would tell you the same thing. You should be running 5100-ish with a full load and 5250 with a light load. On a brutal hot humid July day you may only be able to pull 4800 out of them with that kind of load. The boat is over-propped with that set of 7 blades IMO.

RaggedEdge 06-16-2011 11:49 AM

Scott R. @ Merc Racing told me to shoot for the 52 -53 mark with an average load, claimed the 525's pull real hard right around that mark. With the current 5 blades I never see less than 5 regardless of load or weather. Actually the 4 blade Bravo's act pretty much the same. Good water and air I will turn over 5400 and it acts like it is still pulling well.
