Unhappy Replace 3 front bulkheads!!

My Marine Survey was today. In addition to multiple "easily fixable little problems", apparently I've got rot in the 3 minor bulkheads under the v-berth. The surveyor said it's fixable by a good glass tech. he said it wouldn't take too long but would be very unpleasant time for the tech. The seller said he would pay for the work, and we could get started right away, I just wanted to ask if anyone has been through this and knows what it entails? I've got an'88 8.8 w/454's. They also said they would replace the sheet that lays under the v-berth on the bulkheads. should I be worried about this long term or once fixed should this be okay? Thanks for any ideas or advice.

I don't think it is that uncommon no air circulation. Just make sure to get someone that is good at glass work and cover every thing in cabin or you will know it every time you set in the cabin. You need a strong vac. so it will draw the dust out while they are working in cabin V- berth. I don't know that you would have to replace the whole sheet, would have to let tech look at it. Make sure it is all glassed in and drains put back in. I don't think it would be a problem if fixed right. When stored I think you should open those compartments under V-berth pad so the air can circulate, some people stuff them with things that hold moisture and that is what I believe causes the rot that you have.
Hope this helps

Thank you, BLUEMAN!!! I appreciate the advice and will make sure we proceed with it in mind. I have talked to some techs today and they all seem to think the same as you. Thanks again!

be REAL sure to make sure they drain to the center floor area. Like blueman says those areas tend to stay wet all the time. My 35 has no way to drain so you have to mop out the water (condensation all the time)............ You'll be surprised at how much it makes....... also try not to cut out all the top panel ....it has a cushion section at the joint to keep it from distorting the hull on the outside..........

not a bad job just hot and nasty...........

later
