I have a 98 29 fever and was looking buying a Imco -2 shorty. My understanding the new models they raised there X dimension to increase speed. Is it worth the price of a shorty. I beleave my X-Dim is 18.5. Can any with a newer single 29 with a Hp 500 or larger post there specs and is it harder to plane out of the hole? I have a 540 bulldog with 634Hp running a 28LH bravo 1 . Best speed it 76MPH GPS with a full tank and gear.

I had a 2002 29 Fever with 575SCi. X dim was 19.5". You could get on plane with B1 props, but not with Hydro Q-IV's. As soon as the bow would start to come over, it would blow out with the Hydro props. Sometimes the B1's would blow out in corners. The slip was pretty bad with that boat, too. I had a couple of "good" performance shops and most prop shops tell me that I needed a 1" spacer on that boat to get the drive back in the water. Eariler I had a 2000 29 Fever with 500 EFI, (18" or 18.5" X dim - can't remember anymore) and it did ok with Hydro Q-IV props getting on plane, but it would routinely blow out in corners. I now have a 2006 29 Fever with 525 EFI and the X-dim is 19.0" and it doesn't do anything wierd with B1 props. Have not tried a Hydro Q-IV on this boat. When they switched from Hydro props to B1 props, around 2001/2002, they raised the X dimension too - the B1's were more tolerant of higher X than the Hydros. Between 2002 and 2005, the X-dim varied from 19.0" - 19.5" on the 29's depending on the year. By 2006, they were back at 19.0"

I have a 1998 Fever with a 540 700 hp motor and Imco xtreme advantage out drive and 2' shortie. The x is already high but the shortie really complaments it, I do need to use the tabs to get on plane But only about 1/4 way. Then shes like a rocket.I belive the shortie is well worth it. You should be runnin around 85 with your set up.

2000 29 Fever 500EFI 25P LH Hydro Q-IV 73 mph (GPS) on lake ... performance report said 74.5 mph with 25P LH Hydro
2002 29 Fever 575SCi 30P RH B1 78 mph (GPS) on same lake ... performance report said 83 mph with 30P RH B1
2006 29 Fever 525EFI, 26P LH B1 76-77 mph (GPS) on same lake ... performance report said 80 mph with 28P LH B1
If your X is 18.5" and you raise it 2", I think you are going to have a lot of prop blow out problems. I doubt you could get a Hydro Q-IV to work with that high of X. We tried about every which-way possible with tabs and drive trim, boat weighting, etc, to get a Hydro Q-IV to hook up on the 29 with 575 and could never get it to get on plane. If it would have gotten on plane, I'm sure the top end numbers would have been impressive. I'm sure Fountain went back from 19.5 to 19 for a reason, later in production. I have the Fountain test reports for several of the 29's with a variety of engines and X's. For example, a 2005 29 with 525EFI, X=19.5", 26P B1, 76 mph on the test sheet. Another one, 2003 29 with 500EFI, X=19.5", 26P B1, 75 mph on test sheet,
