10 Meter

I just picked up an 86 10 meter in great shape without power I feel was dirt cheap and was planning on dropping in a pair of 500-525hp carbed motors with TRS drives . What approx top speed should I expect from his hull ?

FOUNTAIN10METER 04-21-2011 08:37 PM

speed

expect around 78 mph. I have a 88 10 Meter with 525hp and labbed props and run 80. I have the boat with Brian Forehand going to 800 hp with new drives. I have transmissions and complete trs drives with gimbles, everything you need for sale if interested. Eerything is perfect inspected by Brian and with him at this time.

Fountain 10 Meter
What pitch props are you running, and how many rpms?

Thanks.

FOUNTAIN10METER 04-21-2011 08:47 PM

I have 30 Bravos labbed by BB Blades. 5000 rpm. nose cones on drives

GS42fun 04-21-2011 09:42 PM

Fountian 10 Meter thanks for the reply. On my 10 Meter I am running 25 pitch 4 blade hydromotives at 5600. GPS at 82 mph with cones also. I bought a pair of 26 hydro's and I am getting a little faster cruise speed but a slower top end. I was thinking about trying bravo's. That is why I was asking.
Have you tried other props?

Thanks again for the reply.

Duck Diggler 04-21-2011 09:51 PM

Hey, Fountain10meter, thanks for the reply thats what I was shooting for 75-80mph. You running 502's or 454's? Whats your cruising speed/rpm, approx fuel burn? You selling the 525hp motors?

Billy Frenz 04-22-2011 12:24 AM

'87 10 Meter

...I cruise at 60 mph at 4,000 RPM, (on the primaries), with the same driveline...25" 4 Blade Hydromotives.

i would be interested in seeing what speeds guys are running in there 10meters w/trs vs bravo drives.454,s vs 502,s.i picked up my 10meter back in november for a good price, could not pass it up.good luck w/your 10meter duck-digger

Duck Diggler 04-22-2011 03:37 PM

Thanks, bcfountain. Thats where I'm at right now, trying to decide between the 454's or the 502's. All the accessories are set up for a gen IV setup. What are you running in yours?

MILD THUNDER 04-24-2011 12:55 PM

You 10 meter guys, turning your props in or out???

i am running 370,s 454.trs drives.not sure of the speed, previous owner said 72.bought as a project.one of the motors spent.i am going to do 496,s with victor jr/850 holy.good luck.post some pics.i think i am turning my props out.

GS42fun 04-24-2011 09:13 PM

On mine, I am running the props turning out.

mlb75 04-24-2011 10:45 PM

If your redoing all the power and drives is there a reason you're going with TRS drives and not just using bravo's of some variation? If the transom is already drilled etc for it that would make some sense but to me it would still be worth updating.

Just curious.

Duck Diggler 04-24-2011 10:57 PM

The drives are already on the boat, and were rebuilt by speedmaster 80 hrs ago,and the trannies were rebuilt not much before that. I may update in the future, but dont want to shell out another 20k just to update the drives to gain a few mph, I don't have a problem running the older stuff as for it was well cared for from the previous owner and as long as it stays reliable it'll have to do for now.

MILD THUNDER 04-24-2011 11:17 PM

Id keep the TRS. Nothing wrong with them. Just keep the horsepower around 550-575. After that, i would go to a speedmaster setup and skip the bravos.

Duck Diggler 04-24-2011 11:55 PM

Only planning on putting no more than 550hp as of now were taliking 500-525hp. It's been my understanding that TRS is a very reliable drive. I just picked up a spare set just incase.

waterbum 05-03-2011 10:52 AM

I have an 86 10 Meter with SSM #3 drives. Engines are 540 CID with approx 650 HP. Best speed to date is 85 MPH (LOTO Shootout radar - handheld GPS had 87 MPH). Running 3 blade props turning out. Going to try some 4 blade props this year.

10x 05-03-2011 08:49 PM

Spinnin em in. Works fine for me.

excalibur82 09-23-2011 12:51 PM

I just converted mine frome a #3 speed master to a bravo..Set The drive height at 21 and spin them in. My motors are the 420's with stainless marine exhaust.I was playing around with props but so far I got 75 and that was with full tank of fuel and 5 guys in the boat going to try it this weekend with just me and 1/2 tank I think I should see another 2-3 mph. not bad for stock 454's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So5iWCU4Hok that isa video of me running at a fun run this past weekend I'm the last guy going by... That speed was on the gps ... 26 bravo's at 5200

GS42fun 09-24-2011 05:20 PM

Excalibur,
What difference did you see going from the speedy's to a Bravo? How much speed did you pick up and did you notice any difference in handling? The most import question was it worth all the work and expense?

excalibur82 09-24-2011 09:19 PM

I just got it done. But so far It ran faster loaded with fuel and people..I Like the way it runs now than before jumps right up on plain and handles great also seems to be alot better on fuel. The boat does not sit as low in the water about 4 inches higher. I think it is well worth it..

GS42fun 09-25-2011 10:57 AM

I remember reading a Teague article years ago, and it said if you like you boat with TRS drives you will love your boat with Bravo's after the conversion.

rexcramer1 09-25-2011 06:43 PM

I am curious as to why you chose to convert to Bravos when they have so many durability issues.

It would seem like going to Konrad drives would be a much better, more durable long term solution.

excalibur82 09-25-2011 07:40 PM

the bravos on a 10 meter are no problem. The reason why i changed, #1 parts to fix the three's are very expensive,#2 the props for a 3 three are hard too find and third, resale value not many people want a boat with three's on it.You can buy a set of used xr drives for half the price of the Konrads. The 10 meter fountain is a light boat and with less than 500 hp it's a no brainer...

Thanks for the reply the boat looks great, let us know how she runs once you have time to get it really dialed in

excalibur82 10-03-2011 07:14 AM

I ran it this weekrnd and got 77.8 so I'm sayin 78. Not bad for 420's. I don't have any video but my friends say when its up and running there is about 4 feet in tthe water. The boat is very senstive to wind, weight and chop.

excalibur82 10-03-2011 12:58 PM

Here is a video I made of Yesterday..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ev96vg7J-AA

tman 10-03-2011 01:22 PM

Looks good thats a lot of trim for a bravo.

excalibur82 10-03-2011 01:59 PM

Just did a bravo conversion drives are only 1/2 inch below the bottom. I have my eye on the gps and thats where it goes the fastest...

tman 10-03-2011 04:28 PM

what pitch props

excalibur82 10-03-2011 06:16 PM

26 bravo ones box stock at 5400 spinning them in.

MILD THUNDER 10-07-2011 12:13 PM

Lookin good man. Question, how does it plane off with the props 1/2 inch below the bottom? Very nice speeds. A buddy of mine has a 35 with a single step, 575hp engines, and is having a hard time breaking 80 (fresh water). I think his props are too deep in my opinion.

excalibur82 10-07-2011 02:52 PM

Believe it or not jumps right on plane with no trim tabs.I had it full of fuel and five people on it and it still popped up.The prop dosen't even breakout getting on plane. That's with four blade bravo ones. I could not get it on plane with hydromotive 4 blades. Once it hit 3000 rpm they would just blow out.
