Default battery switch positions

What is the correct battery switch positions to make sure both batterys are being charged, used? We sometime cove out with the stereo on for a while. Any thoughts 1995 35 with 2 batterys and 2 switches, thinking about adding a 3rd for the stereo

I always run both engines on the same single battery. First half of the day one battery, last half of the day (or trip) on the other battery. Some on here will disagree but I have been doing it that way ever since the early 90's when I had a current drain issue and with the switch on "both" I drained both batteries and had to get help to get home. With my system one of the batteries is always safely completely disconnected, to start the engines to get home. I run the stereo off the most recently charged battery and get plenty of time.

Not the best condition to run both motors off same battery if they are EFI motors. The ECM's are now joined (in a round about ways) thru the battery cables. But many do it and have no problems.
