I bought a 10 year old boat that I was told had been rack stored for 6 years (my first fountain) it had 65 hrs on it.. as stated above 1st problem was fuel and cleaning the tanks of varnish it was a supercharged twin carb set up carbs needed to be rebuilt water pumps changed shift and trim cables replaced.. so again as stated above find a good surveyor for your piece of mind.. if all checks out I would not shy away from a good deal..

If maint was performed correctly and it was stored right no issues. I would check the boat as any normal boat. Hull, interior and I would run it. If it ran for at at least 5-10mins and didnt blow up and you went back and checked the fluids. It would be fine.
Here is what I find funny you have guy that will complain if a boat has 600-700hours on engines but yet there are tons of guys out there with 1000hrs on stock engines without issue. Then you have guys that will say not enough hours beware everything will be rotted. Its not like were talking a 1940's boat that sat for 50 years

I went and looked at the boat and have to say WOW! It is a 1997 38 Fever, she was always stored correctly and is truly a time-capsule and an amazing opportunity for someone!
For those of you who don't know from earlier posts, I am a paraplegic and unfortunately the larger cockpit of the fever is too big for me to lift myself between the captains chairs as I can in the lightning.... so the boat won't work FOR ME.
But back to the boat in question, someone needs to scoop this baby up, get in touch with Mindi Doller at Doller Marine in Hollywood Fl. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o38480-en.html
Meanwhile my search continues .....

I don't think you can verify the real hours by going off the hour meters. How can you be positive the previous owner didn't unplug them for several years?

To be honest I was a little heart broken when I had to admit to myself that the boat just didn't "fit" me, she is by far the best boat i have looked at so far (within my price range).

Fandango.... don't give up hope. Perhaps the cockpit can benefit you. Any thoughts of taking the drivers bolster out and working with a marine interior shop that could fabricate and install some accessibility conveniences that would just make the boat ideal for you? Perhaps making a custom drivers bolster, or custom mount for the bolster?
I own a fabrication shop and work on a personal basis with many people that want custom accessibility options. Give it some thought.
