Lol. I was figuring Eddie told you 1200 and it's going to make 100 more than what he told you like last time!

billy boats 04-08-2016 07:56 PM

Can I play the guessing game?
1180 will be what you end up with, they will make over 1200 if you want but I bet Eddie sends them out the door at 1180.

I'll try to convince him to keep em at max HP....lol. But he will prob tell me to get phuked and de-tune em slightly. The goal has always been 1200 real world HP...that's what I would like w Full accessories and my headers. However, I'm guessing the last 4-5 guesses are pretty close. Old motors made about 1020 w 3.3's....FYI. I like Keegans guess if 1215....dial back to 1200...that would be killer. We will see. 😀

Sounds good Bill. I think the plan is to be at Dyno room most of the day on Friday. Ill text you and fill you in after I talk to Eddie this weekend. Please bring your go-pro so you can video the bottom end "yard sale" that will most likely occur after the rods turn into Chinese Throwing Stars. :party-smiley-004:

Where are you dynoing?

Eddie finally got a Dyno?

keegan 04-13-2016 11:25 AM

No, Eddie is NE of Nashville.

1fastlx 04-13-2016 07:48 PM

2 hours se of nashville is getting close to my neck of the woods. Do you mind giving the name of the shop?

I don't recall the name...but its on the outskirts of McMinnville TN. You could probably call/PM Eddie and he can give you the name.

1fastlx 04-18-2016 03:19 PM

No sweat, Travis told me Friday while I was picking up my engine. I trust everything went well. good luck running your speed numbers.

Crude Intentions 04-18-2016 06:34 PM

How did dyno go?

I agree!!! My guess 1177 & 1175 respectively ;)

1250 is my guess

We had a few issues w valve train chatter. Gonna swap out to a different lifter. The Morels want a 5/30 oil, and Eddie refuses to use that. He wants at least 10/40, preferably 20/50. I'll let him chime in on the details. No pulls, so that's a bummer...but I'd rather of caught it now, vs when I got the boat back. So.....gotta make it right.

F-2 Speedy 04-19-2016 07:29 AM

Its kind of odd that some rattle and some don't

Wildman_grafix 04-19-2016 08:03 AM

So this thread started in July of 2011, how many hours have you been able to put on in that time?

Lmao. I put about 40 on mine since then but 1 of the hours was blessed with a valve seat going though my intake port and most of the engine. I salvaged the crank and rods but norhing else . Lol
Another of the 40 hours was spent driving around the lake at 3500-4000 ( by direction) with a motor that for some reason needed more throttle than the other one lol . After a complete re hone ring and bearing . I'm getting ready to do it again. But this time Im doing everything but the short block. So we shall see. From now on I'm just going to say it goes a hundred. Instead of going a hundred. Lol at least that us what I am saying from land.

I bet your boat is a really treat to watch go by

Wildman_grafix 04-23-2016 07:56 AM

USI

Even with deleting your post I know where you were going with it!

F-2 Speedy 04-23-2016 08:47 AM

lol , I read it before it was pulled ^^^^^

indysupra 04-24-2016 01:37 PM

Were the lifter new this time around or with the original build? What lifters is Eddie going with this time?

I obviously missed something.....as usual.

575cat 05-09-2016 01:11 PM

??

TRL505 05-15-2016 10:45 AM

Going with solid lifters. Gotta pull intakes and blowers yank Hyd Lifters and install solid rollers. New lifters are at Eddies shop now. Supposed to get them in next week/then back on Dyno. Fingers crossed for Memorial Day....we will see.

Keith Atlanta 05-15-2016 11:48 AM

Seriously, do you have really bad OCD or is Eddie on your payroll?

This thread started in 2011! Holy Crap!

F-2 Speedy 05-15-2016 12:25 PM

Your gonna run solid's on a hydro cam core ?? or you changing the bump stick

indysupra 05-15-2016 12:41 PM

Sucks to hear! Is the cam that rowdy or are you just tired of f!cking around and said screw it?

Young Performance 05-15-2016 10:49 PM

I finally got a moment to breathe to make a post. We changed the cam and lifters when we changed to the 4L Whipples. The engines have been running fine for the last several years since we built them. The only time it was down was when it was at RF getting the 6's installed. I came across a good deal on some 4L Whipples and called Eric about them, knowing he wanted to upgrade. I decided to change the camshafts at the same time. We also changed the lifters to a new set of Morels. The same brand that I have run for 15 years now. However, they have obviously changed something in them because they clattered their balls off. I tried everything that I could to get them to shut up and it just wasn't happening. Meantime, I had another engine on the dyno with the same lifters with the same results. I've done quite a bit of reading lately, along with talking to MANY different people, and have found NUMEROUS others with the same results. Why Morel decided to mess with success is beyond me. I have not had 1 issue in 15 yrs with their lifters, so I obviously went with them on this build as well. The engines have about 60 hours with the old lifters. I only changed them because we were changing the cam. There is something going on with the new lifters that is not happy.

So, I have 2 choices. Either go to solids or try a set of Johnson's. I spoke with Johnson and they are confident that their lifters will do just fine. I'm just not in the mood to experiment right now. I know with 100% certainty that the solids won't have a plunger problem, since they don't have a plunger. That is the route I'm going. I'm using ISKY Red Zone lifters with the EZ Roll bushings.

In the grand scheme of things, the cam isn't that large and the springs aren't that stiff. We have done much larger cams and much stiffer springs and turned the engine almost 7000 rpm with Morel lifters. I could never get these to pump up and stay that way. Why, I don't know. They have lost a very loyal customer.
Eddie

KWright 05-16-2016 07:13 AM

Morel has got so busy that they outsourced their plungers. (Eaton if I remember correctly). Although in spec. Just not the tight tolerances that morel had, they have picked up this clacking. They say it's nothing to worry about but sound horrendous. Don't waste your money on their limited travel cheater lifters they do the same thing.

indysupra 05-18-2016 04:33 PM

Thanks for the heads up Eddie. What kind of lash interval with the solid rollers?

Young Performance 05-18-2016 07:25 PM

We'll start at 10 hours. If nothing has moved, then we can go out to 20 hours. I'll lash them before, during and after the dyno.

indysupra 05-18-2016 07:56 PM

I could live with 20 hours if I knew I didn't have to worry about lifter issues. I think I can speak for all of us but thanks for letting us in on some of your tricks!

Aqua Banshee 05-18-2016 08:59 PM

That's about 4 years of boating

Crude Intentions 05-19-2016 05:15 PM

That's a weekend for me. Lol
