Can I play the guessing game?
1180 will be what you end up with, they will make over 1200 if you want but I bet Eddie sends them out the door at 1180. |

Sounds good Bill. I think the plan is to be at Dyno room most of the day on Friday. Ill text you and fill you in after I talk to Eddie this weekend. Please bring your go-pro so you can video the bottom end "yard sale" that will most likely occur after the rods turn into Chinese Throwing Stars. :party-smiley-004:

Another of the 40 hours was spent driving around the lake at 3500-4000 ( by direction) with a motor that for some reason needed more throttle than the other one lol . After a complete re hone ring and bearing . I'm getting ready to do it again. But this time Im doing everything but the short block. So we shall see. From now on I'm just going to say it goes a hundred. Instead of going a hundred. Lol at least that us what I am saying from land. I bet your boat is a really treat to watch go by |

Even with deleting your post I know where you were going with it! :party-smiley-004: |
lol , I read it before it was pulled ^^^^^
Were the lifter new this time around or with the original build? What lifters is Eddie going with this time?

Going with solid lifters. Gotta pull intakes and blowers yank Hyd Lifters and install solid rollers. New lifters are at Eddies shop now. Supposed to get them in next week/then back on Dyno. Fingers crossed for Memorial Day....we will see.
Seriously, do you have really bad OCD or is Eddie on your payroll?
This thread started in 2011! Holy Crap! |
Your gonna run solid's on a hydro cam core ?? or you changing the bump stick
Sucks to hear! Is the cam that rowdy or are you just tired of f!cking around and said screw it?
I finally got a moment to breathe to make a post. We changed the cam and lifters when we changed to the 4L Whipples. The engines have been running fine for the last several years since we built them. The only time it was down was when it was at RF getting the 6's installed. I came across a good deal on some 4L Whipples and called Eric about them, knowing he wanted to upgrade. I decided to change the camshafts at the same time. We also changed the lifters to a new set of Morels. The same brand that I have run for 15 years now. However, they have obviously changed something in them because they clattered their balls off. I tried everything that I could to get them to shut up and it just wasn't happening. Meantime, I had another engine on the dyno with the same lifters with the same results. I've done quite a bit of reading lately, along with talking to MANY different people, and have found NUMEROUS others with the same results. Why Morel decided to mess with success is beyond me. I have not had 1 issue in 15 yrs with their lifters, so I obviously went with them on this build as well. The engines have about 60 hours with the old lifters. I only changed them because we were changing the cam. There is something going on with the new lifters that is not happy.
So, I have 2 choices. Either go to solids or try a set of Johnson's. I spoke with Johnson and they are confident that their lifters will do just fine. I'm just not in the mood to experiment right now. I know with 100% certainty that the solids won't have a plunger problem, since they don't have a plunger. That is the route I'm going. I'm using ISKY Red Zone lifters with the EZ Roll bushings. In the grand scheme of things, the cam isn't that large and the springs aren't that stiff. We have done much larger cams and much stiffer springs and turned the engine almost 7000 rpm with Morel lifters. I could never get these to pump up and stay that way. Why, I don't know. They have lost a very loyal customer. Eddie |
Morel has got so busy that they outsourced their plungers. (Eaton if I remember correctly). Although in spec. Just not the tight tolerances that morel had, they have picked up this clacking. They say it's nothing to worry about but sound horrendous. Don't waste your money on their limited travel cheater lifters they do the same thing.
Thanks for the heads up Eddie. What kind of lash interval with the solid rollers?
We'll start at 10 hours. If nothing has moved, then we can go out to 20 hours. I'll lash them before, during and after the dyno.
I could live with 20 hours if I knew I didn't have to worry about lifter issues. I think I can speak for all of us but thanks for letting us in on some of your tricks!
That's about 4 years of boating
That's a weekend for me. Lol
