92. It used to race class 3 at Longbeach. It only makes fumes when I'm goin over 50 . not when trailering, not when parked, not when goin slow , not rocking back and fourth parked. It doesn't leak a drop. really notice it at WOT. We have never smelled any fuel in the engine bay ever.
I'm thinking the fumes are not goin into the engine bay when goin over 50. Am I Wrong? I opened up the air intakes and air exits on the side of the boat to get more air. Because I got a hunderd or two more rpms out of runnin w the hatch open |
Take a small drill bit & poke a hole right on the floor through the firewall bulkhead. Go slow as to not hit the tank. That will tell you if there's fuel below the tank.

Thanks I'll try it. Can't be too bad removing the floor. Could make a nice access pannel w chrome trim , then throw some carpet.
|
have you tried pressurizing it when the tank is empty?
|
I have not. I did fill it one time last year.. As I drove away from the pump it sprayed fuel for about 10 seconds.. BIG TIME Pressure spray, laid a trail for a while when leaving the gas station.

This is really weird..
As soon as you go about 50 . you semell fuel fumes. ( rough water or smooth glass) Anything under 50 No fumes . No matter how many waves you hit AS soon as I run that front tank out of fuel and switch to the rear tanks. I get no fumes at any speed. Imediatly If the tank was leaking, wouldn't I still smell fuel right after I switch tanks? I can't figure it out. It never leaked any fuel when it sit's either. I repacked the opening w the filler hose and breather hose as well as the gap on the drivers side ( between the floor and the fuel tank compartment) with plastic and insulation and that seemed to cut the fumes down a bit. so it must be coming from a hose on top of the fuel tank in the front ? |
