Just Bought a 24 CS what to expect

I have had a 24 Outlaw with a 496 For awhile now and I just picked up this CS and really excited for spring to see what she does! The CS is a 502 punched to a 509 with A1000 Fuel system, Programmed computer and IMCO Manifols with a 4 Blade 26P , What are the differences I will notice other than this one will be alot faster! OR Did I make a right move by buying this?

Any info or suggestions on this unit would be appreciated!
Aaron

Congrats, love the 24CS. I have old Powerboat and Hot Boat tests of that hull that I could copy and fax if you are interested. Please post some pics.
Thanks: Matt

Expect back pain.

Ran-Dom 32 02-15-2012 09:23 AM

I hope you boat on a pond, having owned both a 24 outlaw & a 27 Fountain , I can only compare the 2.. yes the fountain will be faster but won't ride worth a :poopoo: in any kind of water, the 24 CS was designed more as a ski boat as opposed to an offshore.

Pics I took on the way home from picking it up! I want to take it out to the lake now but.... these 30 and 40 degree days are kind of holding me back!

RaggedEdge 02-15-2012 06:39 PM

Congrats! I have always loved the look of the 24CS.
Enjoy!

THEPISTONHEAD 02-16-2012 01:28 AM

Always a favorite. Its not a big water boat, but you arent on big water. I bet you'll love it!

dykstra 02-16-2012 09:05 PM

Congrats!!

JustSayin 02-16-2012 10:30 PM

I love the looks and the lines, I have never rode in a fountain but let be real.... its a fountain! how much do I really have to worry about! Seems like the worst I have to worry about is a rough ride. That may be but it will be rough compared to a 30 ish + Size boat. I am used to a 24 Outlaw so I dont think it will be much worse but we will see!

HTRDLNCN 02-17-2012 12:09 AM

a 24CS is really a 21ft ski boat(rest is beak and platform), short freeboard and smallish vee.
On a small/mild lake it will be a hell of a lot of fun and very fast..
Its a cool little hot rod!!

JustSayin 02-17-2012 09:11 PM

Anyone know where I can find replacement dash so I can update it a bit? And carpet? I know on my baja their are carpet options to buy on ebay but I cannot find anything on the fountain!

dmb882 02-18-2012 03:04 PM

congrats!

They are fun boats! We are doing some upgrades on ours right now... more boost :)

JustSayin 02-18-2012 03:10 PM

Another owner of a CS I never thought I would find one! Please tell me about your boat!

Fun boats.

JustSayin 02-18-2012 09:04 PM

How many of these do you think are left in the world? If their were 113 ish made I would say they are working their way down in #s every year. I know I have seen 2 Part outs that I totally missed all of the good stuff.

phatmat83 02-20-2012 09:51 AM

This boat was on eBay? If it's the same one I think it is-I bid on it, the funniest part is I ended up buying a 24 outlaw in Wisconsin lol... anyway, this is quite the rare boat from the research I did, and should flat out fly on smooth water with the build. Congrats and enjoy the new boat!

PARADISE ISLAND 02-20-2012 01:24 PM

Very cool boat take it any where!!:band:

speedfreek1 02-20-2012 06:10 PM

looked at one years ago in florida , loved the looks of it but holy crap would it beat the hell out of you , should be lil rocket though ....

JustSayin 02-20-2012 11:57 PM

dam if you were gonna buy in outlaw you should have bought mine haha, Yea i bought it on ebay.. I like it, I hope it does not beat me up on the water as bad as they say but I am excited to try !!!

iveyhoe 02-21-2012 01:48 AM

I had a 97 24cs for ten years kerr lake in NC, fast but rough riding. If you can hang on, it will take the water.

24CS Boy 02-26-2012 09:44 AM

I boat on a small but really rough lake. The lake is 18.1 miles from dam to dam and mainly sea walls. Normal weekends we see constant 2-3 footers and some 4 footers on holidays. The 24cs seems to run great in these conditions. I run it between 32-35 MPH about 2500RPM and it gets about 3-4 MPG at this operating range. The boat rides great at this speed and on a really rough day you can fill the ballastic tank(settings: drive=1, tabs= 3 1/2). The bottom is just like the big Fountains, its has stepped hull and a notched transom. The boat does have a 17 degree dead rise which helps boat plane quicker, but makes boat want to climb waves instead of go through them like the 21 degree dead rise on other Fountains. Use more tab or fill ballast the tank and you will stop it from climbing. My friends have a 252 Cobalt and 252 Formula and they both agree the 24CS rides better than both of there boats. Those boats cruise at 25MPH for best ride unlike the CS which cruises at 35MPH for best ride.

JustSayin 02-26-2012 02:32 PM

Wow, thats a whole bunch of helpfull info! I will remember that. The persone I purchased from said he never used the Ballast in 8 years he owned it. I would be very interested in testing it out of water if I could rather than finding out it has a big ol' leak in the middle of the lake! Any way you think that is possible?

Thanks for the info

cdail28590 02-27-2012 11:32 AM

A buddy of mine has I think #7 that was built. His with a 502, cam, and exhaust will run around 76-77 mph. If you are truly in 2-3 footers the 24 cs does not ride good. My buddy actually used to work at the fountain factory and said the base of the mold came from a skeeter bass boat that Reggie modified. Its a fast good looking boat but anything over 1' constant wave will pound your teeth out. He also never uses his front ballast system.

Biggus 02-27-2012 11:54 AM

A buddy of mine bought one new (still has it) 1996, from Ocean Performance in CT. It's a great lake boat and proven to be very well built. I've been in it countless times, fast when calm and when it kicks up, yeah it pounds but it is what it is, a lake boat. What's impressive after all these years, theree are no stress cracks to be found.

Fun toy, enjoy it!

Kurt

One of my best friends has one. and it was on ebay about 2-3 months ago? His has a 502, with procharger. runs in the mid 80s. I sent him a link to this thread. He also has never used the balast, but i keep telling him we should try it. He also added Lathem Hydrolic Stearing to his.

The boat is not a rought water boat for sure. but it will fly! To me it rides VERY flat ontop of the water when you start moving. but seams stable int he 80's.

If any of you are looking I am sure he will still sell it, and I know he has a full extra set of interior (Sunpad, bench, and front seats) he puicked up to redo with out any down time.

But I will say the Baja is going to ride alot better in water. My 252 baja takes bigger water alot better than his. but dam his is fast haha. also with the exxhaust where it is on these boats the boat rumbels damn good, and is funny sounding when waves seal it under water and then open it back up again.

and its a ***** to tie up to. so damn low, we have finally worked out the bumper and ropes though, but it takes some intristing stuff to tie it up right with out it hitting my boat.

also He overnights on it 2 days at a time with us a few times.....

JustSayin 02-27-2012 07:41 PM

Wow, Their are alot of these running around yet! I am glad to see all of you who have rode in them were impressed, And yea I looked at this thing from TOP to BOTTOM and could not find a single stress crack on the whole boat! And if these are as rough as people say they are this thing really must be built with some Major quality.

24CS Boy 02-28-2012 11:01 PM

There is a chart that goes with the boat that tells you how to run the CS.

mittens 02-29-2012 08:49 AM

Anyone got a copy of that?

JustSayin 03-02-2012 11:34 PM

I would like to have a copy of that

iveyhoe 03-03-2012 01:52 PM

justsayin, check with powerboat mag. they had a test on the 96 or 97 cs24 in there mag . in 97. you can buy a reprint of it online. it had the 502 mpi.

dmb882 03-03-2012 07:23 PM

sounds like a copy of the test report that fountain provides with every boat before dealer/customer delivery. I'll get a copy of ours for reference.

JustSayin 03-04-2012 09:52 PM

sweeeet, I am searching for one now, I wonder if fountain had any leftovers floating around I could purchase from them?

FREAKY FAST 03-06-2012 11:13 AM

I had a 4 outlaw and a 24cs that i just got rid of. the outlaw was a much better riding boat but the CS looked way meaner and timeless. it's very very small inside of it! 20 degree deadrise vs 24 + ride rough but get on plane quick. I have the original sales brochure that came with the boat.

JustSayin 03-06-2012 05:31 PM

would you want to get rid of that sales brochure ? I would be an interested buyer!

mittens 03-07-2012 07:33 AM

Nice how you sliped in there, after i asked if anyone had a copy haha.

JustSayin 03-08-2012 09:38 PM

oh man was not tryin to step on your toes! Its all good. if he does wanna dump it ou can have dibbs! but I would like full color copy if possible
