My buddy went from a 290 Powerquest to a single step 1995 35 Fountain. He has no regrets, has no problems running with the big dogs out on lake michigan. He was not able to play with them when he had the 290 PQ. His wife is much happier on the Fountain when the lake is rough.
I know my 38 Fever, oh wait, 35 Fever, has no trouble keeping up with my buddy's in their 38 Cigarettes when its snotty. And when its 2-3's, walking away is not a problem. The 33AT is a great boat. However, not really a good selection of used ones, and if you find one they aren't cheap. Theres a couple old 10 meters and 35's down this way that would be happy to run that 33 AT on lake michigan in some 3-4's if you wanna have some fun. |
There's actually no selection of used 33 a/t's (4 i/o's made total)
Its my job to give boatnt **** on here so again pardon the joke. I spend some time on a 42' lightening during the summer so its not like I don't like them. 3-4' waves?! Maybe I should bring my dads sea ray 200 if were gonna run little water! I warm up on **** like that! LOL |

If you don't stuff or blow the bravos up, you will definitely have stains in your shorts. 41 apaches get air at 65mph in 3-4 ft NOAA forecast swells. |
My boat won't even do 80!:party-smiley-004:

I had a single step 35 with big power, and the twin step is a much more efficient hull.
The twin step hull handles much better and will require less power to run at the same speed when comparing the two hulls. Both are great boats but if I were to choose again, I would go with a twin step hull. Give Peter Roberts at Double R a call, I think he might have two or three 35 Lightning’s for sale. Here’s a nice one. http://www.doublerperformance.com/in...aggered-35-lig |
35' Lightning
I just sold a 2002 35' Lightning. It seemed like I was always 8 MPH faster than the single step with the same power. I don't recommend the 35' if you wanna go faster than 100mph. It chine walks and gets squirrely.

I experienced it and was told by the guys at Fountain at the time they didn't recommend anything over 100 in a 35' twin step for this exact reason.
