I called fountain just because I was curious and Gail told me that you were right that they only installed the bladders in the "some" of the Poker Run boats. She told me that these bladders were not designed to last forever. Glad to know that my boat doesn’t have one. Lord knows I’ve already had to throw enough money at my boat I’d hate to have to replace the fuel tank for 20K someday as well.
By the way I also asked what going on with the factory and she said that their selling a lot of parts but not building any boats. She said they go back to court next week and should know more then.

they were not fiberglass bladders, more of a vinyl reinforced bladder interesting project for our shop.. rubber hosed 5/8 fuel pick up was completely melted looking at the inlet ,just like it had been hit with a torch to heat shrink it,explains why the engines were bogging at upper rpm"s

Some of the OuterLimits boats have the same issue. As for the question, "Why did the builders take so much risk to save just a few lbs?" Well, remember back in the day Fountain and OL were battling tooth and nail in Powerboat to put up the big top end numbers and reducing the weight of the tanks on the Poker Run models may have given them a mph or two. In hindsight, obviously it was a terrible idea. But as the classic saying goes..... It seemed like a good idea at the time!
