Finally got to the water. Engine runs fine 160 degree water temp. Oil only made it to 120 after about 20 minutes idling. The water pressure guage never moved. Should I be concerned?
91 27 Fever with a 598 cu inch I bought it from Rob Freeman last fall.
thanks

I had the same proplem yesterday. Engine never ran hot but when the smoke came out of the cabin I knew I was in trouble. Wife and kids in the boat. DNR drove right by us without stoping. learned a lesson if you are in trouble you are on your own. The exhaust hose from the header to the exhaust tip melted and leaked into the engine compartment. I rebuilt my water pump last year and would also like ideas what has cause this. I was running 3 pounds pressure at 3000rpm.

I think it may be the guage or tube going to the back. I know it moving water one of the tubes going from the header to the tail pipe was leaking . Had to tighten the hose clamps. Going for a ride today I'll let you know what happens.

Are you showing any water pressure when your at cruise? I notice very little water pressure at idle. Also are your headers hot to the touch? How long ago since you replaced your impeller?

Hook it to the garden hose- start it and watch the guage. It should register about 1 pound. I think possibly 2 pounds in the lake Idleing. On plane it should read anywhere from 15- 25 at wot. For a n/a motor

More than likely the fitting that the hose connects to with flare nut has rust or other crud blocking the opening from the block if temp is good and water flowing out back. My '99 525SC's had to be "wired" out about once a year. Was located in the left lower block drain plug just forward of the oil preasure sender.

Ran the boat today. Still no water pressure and the temp guage did not move. I can see water thru the top of the sea strainer and the oil temp ran 180 to 200 all day. The headers are hot to the touch but not bad. I think the guage or sending unit on the water temp is bad. But it did work just the night before.
Anyone know how to test the sending unit and I will check the water pressure tube for a blockage.

It's a water line from the motor to the gage no sending unit involved. I had one that was pinched on rigging and water couldn't get thru it. The hose connects on the port side of the motor. Brass connection to a rubber hose. Like mentioned pull it off if connected and run a wire thru it. I ended up disconnection it from the dash and used compressed air to find out it was pinched off.
