38s, drive heights?

got a 38 fever stepped. put -2 shorties and the boat will not carry the bow got 5 blade hydro 30s on it spinning 5200. saw 82gps did the shorties make this boat slower? what has worked for you guys with similiar 38ft boats with around 600-650hp thanks

I believe maximus props would be better .

I like the Maximus and I'm glad I have them. They are always locked solid any any RPM and they plane well.

I have a set of 5 Bl Herings headed my way. I'll let you know if they are better for top end and how they make the boat plain . Once you raise your props out of the water a bit the p5x's won't work.

man i called hydro and they said because of what i did with the drive height my prop slip was way high so i need 5blades. i had 30 B1s and hit about 83-84 but was revving 57-5800 (a little to high on the revs) so i spent like 2200 on these props for nothing. i love boating!!lol

5 blades will probably work better, but remember if you try to carry the bow too high you will be working against the forward push. Our boat ran better with drives parallel and letting the bottom design work its magic. If it bow steers then it definately needs more bow lift.

How far below the bottom are the propshafts now?? I'd try some Maximus props.

3.5 -4in propshaft

Which Hydromotives did you get, the P5X (round ear) or P5 (pointed, cleaver style ear)? The P5X provides more bow lift. As others have mentioned, I have found the Maximus to be a better all around prop than the Hydromotives. Better planning, cruise, handling, and top end. That said, at your current prop shaft height, I don't think 5 blades are what you need. I would try to find a pair of 32 Bravo 1's. They should drop your rpms by 300-400 turns as compared to the 30 Bravos. Labbing with get you back a couple hundred rpms.

Better yet, I would give Brett at BBlades a call. He has most brand props in stock, and his prop exchange program would have saved you the $2200 you spent figuring out the Hydromotives are not what you need.

Also, the 38' Fever runs high 70s, maybe 80mph on its best day with Merc 500hp's. So with 600-650hp, I think you're doing good at anything over 85mph.

I agree with the above post. If your props are 3.5-4" below th running surface, you don't need a 5 blade. With your power you are doing ok. Depending on what your dyno sheet shows, a little higher rpm can help save your drives.

px5 round ears should work at the depth . Do you have the port prop spinning clock wise and the stareboard prop spinning counter clockwise?
