Default speed question?

Ok, this guy is selling a 1998 42 fountain. He is claiming it will run 86-89 mph with twin 525 mercs. Is this possible? Sounds kinda high to me but I don't have as much experience as most of you guys, so any input would be appreciated.

I would say that is a about where it should be with 525's, dialed in.. I believe with 500's they ran about 80.

Is it a staggered boat, or a classic ( non stag)

JFYI we have a 83 10 meter that was converted to B1's and ran 82-86 with 500's and is a non stepped boat.

Mine did around 85mph bone stock with 575s and XRs. full stagger - big step boat. I think he is a little high, but pretty close...

p.s. mine is for sale - and runs a little better now

My 525 EFi boat says on its "birth certificate" from Fountain it got 87 mph on its test run. Best I've gotten is 85. And I have two big steps. I have heard that 525 SC's would dyno at 540hp so I'd give it MAYBE 83.

Correct...81-83. This dude may may be going off of an old school liquid filled "dream meter" speedo too.
