32 Fever Hull vibration
I have a 98 32' Fever, and it has the typical vibration issue when idling out. It seems like it's a lot more pronunced in my boat than others that I've seen and been told about, you can hear it several hundered yards away, it sounds like I have 15 subwoofers in the boat all stuck on one note. It doesn't bother me too much when idling out, I can usually drop the tabs and give it a timy bit more stick, and it gets the swim platfoprm to break the seal with the surface of the water. The problem is idling when I'm at the dock or rafted up, it is bad enough that it gets water completely up the sunpad. Yes, I know it's a boat, and we are at the lake, but I only took it out twice at the end of the season, and each time someone slipped on the wet sunpad/swim platform crossing my boat at the tie up. I'm worried someone is going to break their face and get a lawyer.
After all that long winded explaination, here's my question....has anyone put aftermarket aluminium exhaust on one of these with big blocks, and did it make enough difference in how it sat in the water to alleviate the issue? I have seen threads on here about adding weight to the front, so I did an experiment with some buddies, and it took 3 of us, all right around 200 lbs apiece, standing on the beak to get it to come out of the water enough to make it stop. That's a hell of a lot of weight to carry around that far up the nose. I would be nervous about it starting to stuff the nose in if I hit a cruiser wake wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! P.S., I do have silent choice, but need to replace 2 of the solenoids to get it to work. I would rather get it to where I can idle it without the above issues rather than go that route anyway. I like hearing her run, even at idle. |

Mine has the silent choice and its dead quiet @ idle but when I have it above water with a few people on it does the same thing. Nordic 95 has the same boat with quite a few pieces replaced with aluminum and it sits quite a bit higher then stock, maybe a solid 5" or so.

Replace the parts to fix the silent choice.. only option. Or install gibson downturns. I installed emi exhaust and the rear went up about 1".

My 1st year with my 32 the silent choice exhaust valve was frozen open. I could not take it, I installed these rubber 4" elbows and all was well. I did pull off the silent choice and took it apart and freed it up and works well now. The EMI exhaust i was able to idel around the dooks w/o the rumble when open .

When we are tied up in the party cove, As long as everyone with me is staying in or out of the water, I can manage to keep the sunpad relatively dry. The angle the boat sits when stopped is part of the issue, because the sunpad is tilted down some, so it doesn't take much water on it to make it slick as hell. Plus all the pople from other boats crossing, it stays pretty wet all day. Part of the problem to, wich there really isn't a fix for, is the rear of the boat sits so much lower in the water than most that I tie up to, so pople are already having to step down on it. Add some alcohol in their system, plus a little water on the my sunpad, and it gets tricky. I try to keep towels out on it, but I don't want to have to babysit all day. The vibration issue is just a contributing factor part of the time, I was just hoping to get it resolved regardless, it does get rather annoying in it's own right. |
Where did you find the 4" rubber elbows? Seems like a cheap fix to see if it helps.
|
I found them on line.

This is my 32' Fountain SFC.With the additional weight forward from the half tower the swim platform is higher then most 32's. Maybe getting some additional weight forward would help.

The 32 fever with the step has the issues. When fountian removed the fiberglass from the under the rear hull is sank lower in the water causing problems.

Even with the clearance I have I get the vibrations if I open the silent choice exhausts to dump straight out the back. ed |

Unfortunately, my last, last boat (2 boat ago, if you need some counting), was an exceptionally well taken care of 89 Baja 240. She had a BADASS 540 in her, and was a lot of fun on lake Travis. Not so much in the rough, but I digress. She had dry exhaust exiting above the swim platform. I loved the he!! out of it. Wife, not so much. The boat had a 2000 watt stereo in it, and you couldn't even hear it under way, I haven't figured the math out yet, but somehow, 650 HP can beat out more than twice as much stereo wattage...lol. Not that that was a big deal to me, I love a screaming big block, but you know where the push back on that is coming from. To be competely honest, even I got kinda tired of it when the PoPo got interested. Which was every time I pulled into the party cove, pulled out of the party cove, put it on the trailer, pulled it off of the trailer, started it up, shut it down, cruised anywhere....and on and on. In a perfect world, I'd throw some SMI dry exhaust on this one too, exiting above the swim platform. No worries about vibrating with that setup, but it's just not that practical...I've learned the value of "selective stealth' these days on the lake. At least around here.

Switchable exhaust is illegal in NJ, so anytime I get pulled over while coming off plane I slowly close the exhaust (air actuated) so by the time I stop its like I'm not even running. Luckily its only a few times a year and I've only gotten warnings.

can I extend the pipes out of the water for the sound maybe open the bottom of the hose for the water to flow out

May sound crazy, but have you tried strategically placing dynomat pieces on areas of the swim platform that you can reach from inside? The stuff is pretty amazing, kills subwoofer resonance, worth a shot. I have been using window membrane flashing for speaker installs, cheaper and seems to work just the same

4" rubber elbows.A lot cheaper option than $1100 for 4 Gibson downturns. http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...gory_Code=9DEH

The new pipes are 4" also ?
|
Yes, EMI 4" dry to the tip.

Will your hatch close? Looks close, unless your hatch has the insert

I was concerned. There is a 1/2" clearence from the top of the pipes. I don't think the stock hp500 air cleaners would have fit. I had to raise up the exhaust holes 1".

I ended up installing stainless turn downs,,$200.00 for all four, they are actually Diesel truck tips,,I finally put the boat in the water yesterday,it took 90% of the vibration away,,you can see by the picture below how now the exhaust exits out from under the swim platform ..as you can tell the water is very high so lakes are shut down,,I think all the vibration will be gone once in gear and the boat is moving

I relocated my batterys forward into the side compartments, removed the silent choice and other parts. Hoping to raise mine up a little. I will post new pictures soon.

More expensive than the rubber but could look decent with a polish or a scotch brite satin.
