After 20 years of drooling over these magnificent machines, I bought my first Fountain today.:party-smiley-048:
It's an 89/90 27/29' with twin MK-IV's. Boat was actually curing in the mold when the C.G. made the length rule change. Got it from the orig owner along with pick-up bed full of extras, the official shop manuals and the original Myco trailer. Even has the wheels that look like the Fountain logo! Boat has been garage kept this whole time!!:eekdrop: Had a life-long Fountain mech/driver go over the transom/stringers and gave it a general look-over. He was just as impressed as I was to its' condition.. Can't wait to take it out. Think I'll go back out to the shop and drool some more!! |
Congrats! Post pics!!!

I'll try and get some pics up soon. Boat has an interesting history.
As the story goes, and I have no reason to doubt it, Reggie took it to the boat show in New Orleans in 1990. |
Congratulations! You are now enjoying one of the 2 best days of a boat owners life... the day he buys his boat... of course we all know the other is the day he sells his boat... :daz:
Seriously, congratulations! Sounds like a sweet boat. |
i know it can be done but lord have mercy thats gotta be some tight working room in that engine compartment. Anxious to see some pictures. I love seeing some of Reggies early work.
|
Congrats.......great boats

Not just a Fountain thing. Bunch of other manufacturers changed the stated length but did nothing to the boat back then when it was all changing. But, to get back on topic, post some pics of that 29 man. Congrats! |

Some of you in the Texas/Louisiana area might recognize it from a few years back. Prev owner was pretty active up to abt 7 years ago.
Hope to have some pics on the water soon, but for now, this is what I got: |
Congratulations - post some pics of the cabin, if you don't mind.
|
Congrats ZZ. Nice boat. Your graphics are just like ours except a different color. Check it out.

Awesome, welcome to the family, I know just how you feel, I was over the moon when I bought my first Fountian years ago.... Actually, I still feel the same way, they're awesome boats.
Get her on the water and enjoy, safe boating :D |
Thx for the warm welcome!
My test ride was only abt 20 mins, but it was 20 mins I'll never forget. I can't wait to get her on the water again. She rides like a dream compared to my last boat, and corners like she's on rails. Don't see any blowers in my near-term future. She'll do mid 80's in fresh water. Plenty fast enough for me! Anyone ever see a steering wheel trim switch like mine, with the coiled cord and all? Prev owner said it came like that. I'm tempted to remove it or at least clean it up a little. |

My '88 10 Meter came with that wheel/switch. It is ugly, but you'll be amazed at how much you use it. I eliminated mine from the wheel (but kept it tucked up under the dash) when I redid my dash, and I haven't figured out a way to retrofit a nicer version yet, but I do miss it. It comes in very handy when you're planing off in traffic and/or rough water and need to adjust throttle, trim and tab at the same time. You only have 1 left hand.
|
That's pretty slick Wildman. You buy it like that or do it yourself?
Guess if I remove the trim switch now, I won't really miss it. |
Great looking boat.
|
Personally I would keep the switch but get a new wheel and a differennt style switch. Then pace it on the new wheel. Wildman graffix has a great point... hands on the wheel and still trimming! Sounds like cruise control in the truck to me! I'd keep it...

Thanks for the compliments.
Guess I should have mentioned the engs aren't exactly stock. The mark IV's now have Merlin heads, Merlin intake, Crower full-roller valve train, Imco Powerflow exh, Holley 750's, Marine AL6, billet dist, blaster coil and 10.25 to 1 compression. Only things original are the blocks, cranks and rods! Est hp is ~500.. |
