If I were on a big body of water I would probably do a 35'. You can buy a 35 for nearly the same money as a 29'. On a freshwater lake like Norman or Lanier a 27 or 29 is fine. One thing a 27 holds about 60 gallons of gas and a 29 has about 120 gallons of gas. So you would want to keep stable in 29.

As we all know waves can come up on a big body of water in a hurry. It can be flat calm in the morning and rough 6' plus in an hour. If I were boating on a great lake I would want it least a '35. Running fast in a performance boat in 6' seas is not something I would want to do. How about a 60' Hatteras maybe. LOL.

We could all play the well if your looking at a 38 lightning you would probably be way happier with the ride of the 42 lightning...... Well no sh!t. Also im not speaking to what kind of money this guy has but not everyone can consciously afford a 35 fountain but a 27 could get it done for them?

Back to the OP 29 will be better than a 27, and will handle everything average joe fountain wants to do.

If your 6' + like I am, opt for the 29, it has to have better leg room than my 27. Other than that, I'm beyond happy with my 27. A 29 with a 500 or 525 would be sweet, other than the extra up keep having the Blue motor.

We had a lot of fun on our 27', but generally it's just my wife and I on board. We (I) was just itching to go bigger and faster. The 27' is a dream to work on, however. Lot's of room in the bilge with a single.

I think if you roll with a lot of people all the time a small HP boat is not really the thing to have. But I love the boat, it has been turn key for 9 seasons. I have looked at a 29 a bunch of times but on my lake I can never find a good reason for doing it.

Go with the 27.more of them to pick from and cheaper.if your like most performance boaters.you will keep her long enough to get her rite....and then you will want something bigger and faster.

I just sold my 27 Fountain this spring and I boat on Lake Ontario and there were plenty of days that I would not take it out because of 4-6 foot waves. Honestly on those days I don't enjoy being out anyway so I don't really care if I had a bigger boat at the time I probably wouldn't of gone out anyway. Now I have ridden in my friends 29 Fountain with twin 454 motors and that seemed to handle the rough stuff a lot better but still not great. Now that I have the 35' Fountain it is night and day, in the 35' Fountain it crushes most anything that Lake Ontario has thrown at it so far. But again I am a fair weather boater and don't pound on or beat up my boats so for what its worth I would go for this biggest boat that you can afford.
