Speed questions
Ok. I'm looking at 42s. All years from early 90s to early 2000s. I know twin step staggered is free speed. Trust me that weighs heavily.
Here's my question. Would say a 93 42 with twin 502 mag mpis 415 run 70? I don't want triples at all. I've been doing some research and the 502s can be built fairly easily to mid 500hp. So if a straight bottom 42 will run 70 with 415s, what would said boat run with 550ish a side? Just a few questions as I'm trying to finish up a divorce and figure which route I may wanna go. Thanks guys. Mike |
When finishing up a divorce, you should buy a fishing boat and take her fishing. Have her hold a bucket of chum and give her a shove overboard. Oh wait, thats what I should have done. Yea my wife cheated on me and I loose everything ,cause thats fair. Not that I'm bitter about it tho. Just kidding. I hope you have better luck than I did in my divorce.

Mine is easier i guess. I have her all furniture a lump sum of cash and I get all the bills. We have no kids so that helps |
I don't think a straight bottom 42 with 502 mags will quite hit 70. Probably just shy of it. But, it is a great hull to add power too, then again, all fountains are! With 550HP per side, Id say at most mid 70's.

Thanks MT. Was looking at newer staggered setups but thinking I don't want a big payment so wondering how I'd do with a straight bottom. Finding some nice ones for sale in upper 30s low 40s. How much power do you think it would take to hit 80 in a side by side straight bottom 42?

Back4more's straight bottom 42 is for sale again. $60K!!
A 42 with steps would be lucky to do 70mph w/ 502 efi's..... |
Back for mores is? Why? That is a nice 42.
ICU, There is a guy on the board that bought the side by side with blown 454's in it from Shogren. I think the owner was on here and said low 70's. The guy that bought it lives in Ft Myers, do a search here maybe you can PM him. Don't know what he went by,,,,,, |
Wildman, from his posts. Going MTI, I seen it on facebook & cant find it now.

I have a Straight bottom side by side setup . It has the 525sc setup basically 454's with b&m 250's. I'm running deep with TRS drives. having trouble spinning the 26's past 4700rpm. I'm seing 68 GPS. I'll be working on props after the sarasota run. I personally like the non step for our boating down here its a smooth ride.. I really like is the cockpit room I have with this setup. Don't get me wrong stags are badasz but will eat up cockpit area especially fountains. It's a hard decision to make when buying one. I don't think 80 is out of reach. I would guess 600ish hp. Drives will make a difference If you would like to get out sometime to get an idea on how they ride just pm your number we can chat.. |
Back4more is a sweet boat wonder why he is selling he just bought it. Anyone have the link?
Mike it would be worth looking at and it's not to far away. It's in Louisiana I believe I think It's got mitcher paint also Did you see the 42 in MI with 502mpi b1 setup. Not sure if it is still on CL but I got the guys number. Had a buddy check it out had AC |

Thanks oneanddone. Ill buy the gas beer and skanks!! Lol. When the time is right if the price is right I wouldn't be opposed to a side by side big step. Or any step. It's all what's available at what price when I'm ready. Gotta pay the b*tch first.

Your boat is great looking. Love it. Seems like you should be going a bit faster with it though. I noticed in the pics your upper blower pulley looks a little large. How much boost are you making with it? I had 454's with 177 blowers, dart heads, roller cams, 5lbs of boost, in a 402 Formula SR1. Boat would do 70mph. Spun 25p 4 blades to 5500, and 26p 5 blades to around 5100. The Fountain is a much faster hull than that 40 Formula. I would have thought your boat would be doing low to mid 70s no problem.

I have the smaller 3# pulleys on. I had the 5.5 on the 29 and loved it. I'm going to wait till I build them fresh and put more boost to them. I do want to try some 25's can't seem to push past the 4700 mark and any drive trim over 3 I loose speed. I'm running B1 4 blade 26's now

props turning in or out? Figured it was low boost with that pulley.

OneNd done is the boat I was thinking of. I love the look of that thing clean.
As for the speed I thought the other owner was getting more out of it, didn't you add AC? Where is the water pickup for it? |

I did install AC, the pickup is on the bottom just front of the port motor. I have a thread started I guess I should do a little updating |
I just pulled a set of 415s out of my 32 Fever. When she was running her best she hit around 74 so I don't thing a 42 with 415s in it will ever see 70MPH.
