I'm doing everything that "doesn't work"

That's right! "Arnesons don't work on a Fountain", so I'm having them installed this month. "LS engines won't push a boat that big", so I'm building a couple to put in it. Geez, I hope everyone is wrong.

Here are the stats. The hull is a '98 that was formerly powered by triple 525SC's and Bravo 1's. With labed 29 Hydros it ran 90 on GPS. The new power is a line of LS motors that I'm developing. Currently the entry level setup is testing well, so now it's time to test it in the real world. If everything goes right I hope that I can drag it out to a few poker runs and maybe even the shootout.

Here she is getting ready to get some glass work.

I like the quick disconnects you installed on the drive indicater cables.

Who are the know it all's that say that... There are more self proclaimed expert's with ZERO actual EXPERIENCE that talk so much crap it's ridiculous.

Disregard those that dissuade and concentrate on what works. A good boat is a good boat, nothing from Arneson will change that. Turbo Charged Small Block's are even better. Those should put a thrill in the bilge.

Only the part of it. Basically just enough in front of the extension boxes to keep them from dragging through the water.

Should only need a small filler about 2-3" tall on each engine centerline in order to put the drives at the correct height.

575cat 03-26-2014 11:49 AM

Wouldn,t you have to get them down as close to the keel as possible for the right attack angle so not to push the nose of the boat down ?

hogie roll 03-26-2014 12:27 PM

Awesome. Are you doing the work in Hudson? Where do you boat? I'd love to check it out some time. I'm in peoria.

I live in Hudson, but my shop is in Colfax. We typically get out to Clinton, LOTO, and Lake Michigan. Come on by, shoot me a PM.

No... The Keel has nothing to do with pushing the nose down as the keel is the center of the hull not the engine centerline. To get the propellers closer to the keel one would run a stagger setup. Proper installation of the #7M Kits does not require a full bottom so to speak just a transom height that will allow the boxes to be installed at the correct height. The way I designed the Arneson Standoff Box the notch does not need to be completely filled in for a stagger and mostly does not need anything for a side by side application.

Look at the pics in the first post. You will see the bottom of transom is stepped back from hull. That is the notch

12meter joe 03-26-2014 09:07 PM

What size turbos are those?

A lot. The ones with #6 drives are surfacing, heck for that matter they were raising the x dimension so high on most even some bravo boats come close to "surfacing".

I mean,t arneson .

Wildman_grafix 03-26-2014 09:51 PM

That brings up the question, if the props are surfacing does it matter what kind of drive it is? Boat handling wise?

Anybody know?

Fountain installed Arneson way back when they made the 10M and 12M boats and there are a lot of the 42' with Arnesons and diesels, the 42' race boats of Fountain World Wide that dominated the European P1 course, Bill Mazzoni's 42' Fountain Taboo, the original Etore V hull was converted to Arneson in UK, the 38' race boat that Lil R raced was converted to Arnesons over in the UK, Sheds Plus, Tilted Kilt...

Enough successful applications? That covers 35' 38' & 42' race boats. The 10M and 12M as well as the 38, 42 and 48's came factory with Arnesons on them.

Precision 03-27-2014 06:39 AM

I'm glad Rik is fielding the arneson questions.

Joe,

They are based on Garret GT30 turbos.

Tell us more about the motors!

Haha, ok. They are 370CI with forged bottom ends and CNC ported heads, super alloy intake and inconnel exhaust valves. We are using the Holley hi-ram intake with our own intercooler that mounts between the upper and lower plenums. The turbos are internally gatted, and of course water jacketed. They build boost just off of idel just like supercharged motors. With regard to power output, they produce just under 900HP @ 6200 RPM on 87 octane. Not to bad considerng my target was only 800 for this set up.

This is the entry level motor out of a three motor offering that are rated at 800, 1100, and 1300HP.

Nice numbers, why not use the larger LS motor, don't they have one that is 427 cu in? Are the cylinder bores to close for a marine application?

No, but it adds another 4K to the cost of the short block, requires bigger turbos, and makes more power. See where this is going?

Wildman_grafix 03-27-2014 11:45 AM

Lol
It's only more green paper!

Didn't know it added that much ouch.

Dkahnjob 03-27-2014 09:38 PM

Do you have any idea what the motors will sell for and how the weight compares to a big block Chevy?

tomtbone1993 03-27-2014 10:46 PM

what top speed are you shooting for?

I will weigh them in a few weeks. I would guess a few 100 less per engine. With regard to pricing, I'm shooting for a price less than what a SCI 700 runs. Far less.

I can only speculate at this point but I would be happy with 115-120 MPH.

Precision 03-30-2014 09:46 PM

In case you know of anyone looking for power, I need to move my old power and drives.
