Default 27 Fountain Fever

I am looking at a 1995 27 Fountain Fever with stepped hull. It has a 525sc in it, was special ordered from factory with it. It currently has a 26p bravo 1 RH on it, as he had to send the 26p hydromotive LH back to hydromotive to get the bigger hub pressed in for the XR shaft. What kind of speeds and rpm should I be seeing with this??? Anything in particular I should look for? problem areas? The motor had bearings, rings, and heads done 100ish hours ago along with the blower sent out to be gone through as well.

You should see mid 70's with it if I remember correctly. Mine with a 454mag MPHI ran 67 on most days. They have a tendacy to chine walke when you get them in the low 80's so you've got a good set up as is. They originally came with Mach props and later hydromotive props. If it has the work done you said should be OK except the super charger. I am remembering the rear bearings can have issues. Griff in here is the 525sc expert, you should PM him and pick his brain on the 525.

Thanks buddy, I have been reading alot about the 525sc and it looks to be a great motor in stock form, and even modified if you go with a bigger blower. Maintenance is the key to that, which includes changing the blowers lube when doing oil changes. How about as far as the boat goes, is there trouble spots in the fountain hull? stringers? transom? etc...

I have a 525SC in my -93. I can easily hit 73mph fully loaded. My motor is .60 over with 8.5:1 and I'm running -2 lower with a 24" P5X.

How much speed gain did they get with the stepped hull? You are pushing a decent amount more power with the increase in compression and speed gain with shorty I would imagine

I would guess around 3mph. I had a HP500 in the boat while rebuilding the 525, i really like the 525SC over the HP500. It should be a blast in a stepped 27.

Cool thanks man. Is there much of a ride difference between the straight and stepped bottom?

Personally I have no experiance with the stepped bottom. Check for soft transom/stringers, the 525SC is very reliable if maintained properly.
