38 Fever Straight Bottom
Looking for advice on drives for my 91 38 straight bottom fever. I am currently running stock bravo 1.5s with standard lowers and 500 hp efis. The boat will run 72 with 26p bravo props. I was thinking of putting a set of imco -2 lowers on but am looking for advice from anyone that may have ran this same setup. Is it worth it, what are the pros and cons of doing it? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Eric

We just put a set of 2" shorties on a 91 38' We up graded the motors to 540's at the same time so I can't say on the speed but the handeling is good. The drives don't feel to high by any means. Originally he ran 26 bravo's at 72 as well. We changed to the fast efi and 540 cid. The boat now will run 80 in good conditions running a 28 bravo

Im thinking the shorties would help. How much, not sure . Your boat was prob equipped with 3 blade props when new, drives are prob fairly deep. The shorties and 4 blades would prob be a better setup. I have a 1990, 38 Fever. But it has SSM 4 drives on it . Way different setup.

I seen your thread the other day and remembered a link I had saved on my computer at work, thought you might enjoy

I'm not going to drop names but I was talking to some people I consider to be "professionals" in the hi-perf marine world last fall about doing some drive upgrades on my 90' 38 fever. They have never steered me wrong and I highly respect their opinions. I wanted to replace my stock length bravos with some stock length sportmasters.
It was there opinion that I should really look into some -2's. Not speaking for all, but it sounded as if most of your earlier fountains ran the drives alot deeper than the newer ones. We looked at my boat on the trailer and he showed me the difference compared to a newer 38 fever stock length, and a 35 lightning that had -2's on it. Just like mild thunder said then switch out to a 4 blade with the -2's and it would definatley be a noticeable gain. After seeing the difference in person, I'm going to follow their suggestions. |
