Does anybody know anything about this boat? I am thinking about pulling the trigger and buying it. What do you guys think a "good deal" is on this boat? I would love the 29 Fountain but I am looking for a boat that is atleast 2000 or newer and they all seem to be out of my price range.

I have an 05 and it's a great boat. Most of the boats I see advertised are somewhere around 40K. The 496HO is pretty much bullet proof. The 27 vs 29 tradeoff as has been debated endlessly. I use mine on a freshwater lake and it has been very reliable.

It does look like a clean boat.
Unfortunately, you are pretty far away from KY. Otherwise, I'd suggest that you offer him a stack of $100 bills about $35,000 high (and have another $5000 in the truck, just in case) and see if he takes it. 1 owner boat - I'd guess it's paid off by now.

I can't find much close to NJ. Have any of you guys actually agreed on a price over text/phone and then got there and offered significantly less and completed the sale?
It seems like a buyer should take a couple thousand less if the buyer is paying with cash so he doesn't have to report anything to the IRS

I made a deal over the phone before I had someone or myself look at the boat I bought (1200 miles away). That agreement was based on what the seller said about the boat(nothing wrong). I had a surveyor check out the boat and it came back prefect. So I drove the 1200 miles to pick it up. Paid the seller the agreed price and drove off.
If I was the seller and we agreed upon a price based on what was represented, and the boat was exactly as represented, I wouldn't accept a penny less. If you came and wanted to get it for a lower price I would tell you to take a hike.
As far as getting the boat cheaper because you are paying cash, that wouldn't make any difference for me because most likely I'm selling the boat for less than I paid for it.
